slippy Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The weather has finally broken, me and Funbob have a spanking freshly purchased Blade sat in the garage just waiting to be explored. We toss a coin to see who gets first drive and I win, we tentaviley pull away and drive toward our closest country road and BBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRPPPP I floor it and guess what ? We have forgotten to lock the bonnet !!!!!!!!!!! it somersaults down the road behind us and comes to a crunching stop Funbob jumps out and makes the walk of shame of about 50 yds down the road to collect the stray body work and his face says it all it's 'scratched and cracked TO FOOK !!!!!!!!!' Gutted Quote
SADDLEWORTH Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I did the same thing last year,so your not on your own Quote

slippy Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Feel for you mate My 1st Westy was a day old and my beloved mother reversed into and shattered the nose She came close to a hiding that day I can tell you Quote
jonlewis Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 To make you feel better...... I was taking the purchaser of my car out for spin on Saturday, and did the same. So the Last time I will drive it cost me £250... Quote
Tony Hughes Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Had the bonnet fly off on my old 7SE right by a bus stop crowded with people - highly embarrassing! Quote
dern Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 If it's any comfort I did the same but at 70mph. Upside is that I already had a spare bonnet but the downside is that it wrecked my 200 quid lid on it's way past. At least we're all here to tell the tale Quote
reaper Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 you muppet slip. only joking bud. almost done it myself cept it was only 1 side i hadnt locked so i had a chance to stop before it came off. I've now fitted a set of bonnet catches as well as the locks so it's got no chance of coming off now Quote
gadrego Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Sorry to hear that mate. Can it definately not be repaired? What's the lead time on a new one? If its any consolation, my car hasn't seen daylight since October and probably won't for at least another week. Quote
Lordbenny Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I did exactly the same a couple of years ago, hit approx 60mph on the local dual carriage way and all of a sudden......I could see my engine! Looked in the rear view mirror only to see my bonnet about 30ft in the air, it floated down to earth & landed right side up in some long grass at the side of the road. Not a mark on it! Luccky or what? Quote
Phil. S Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 This happened to me many years ago when I took my mate out in the TR3 I'd just bought. I thought I had beteer check the oil first, but the latch didn't quite catch when I closed the bonnet. Got up to speed then up it went over our heads and straight under the wheels of the Escort following who flattened one side of it. Earlier still I forgot to tighten the wheel nuts on my old Herald. While I was wondering why the steering was juddering when going round bends the front wheel fell off Quote
