Bananaman Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Thinking of getting my eyes lazered (short sighted) Any body reccomend a GOOD firm? Quote
Bananaman Posted May 16, 2006 Author Posted May 16, 2006 Rather you than me Thanks for that................ Very usefulll Quote
Blatman Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I'd have it done, no worries. But not yet, so I can't help. If it was me though, I'd be asking my GP, and getting the opinions of my nearest couple of opticians, as well as trawling the web. There must be *loads* of stuff about this on the interweb... Quote
Renmure Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I considered having it done recently. However, after going through the free tests, they were able to recommend it for for one eye but said that the prescription required for the other eye was too low to be of benefit after laser treatment. ie they could fix the worse eye but not really improve the not-too-bad eye. I would still have probably requred glasses for driving so decided against it at the time although if my prescription worsens to the point where both eyes would be fixed then I would go ahead. I have a few friends who have gone ahead with laser surgery and all recommend it highly. Jim Quote
Martin Keene Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Without wishing to worry you. One of our subbies had it done, and he said it hurt like hell. He said what made it worse was knowing how much it was going to hurt the second time round... And his eye's were so blood shot for a week afterwards he looked like he had been on the lash for a month! I'd go with Blatman's suggestion, and only if you can find one the professionals recommend then think about it. If it laser treatment goes wrong your blind, extreme example I know, if your glasses go wrong they fall on the floor... You only get one set of eyes. Just my opinion... Quote
Mark Stanton Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Would never have it done it myself Know a couple of folks who have had various problems and still wear glasses Thing is Laser treatment has been around for about 15 years or so ................................... is that a long term time for assessment not for me Too many variables for the risk for me........... I could cope, somehow without hearing or loss of a limb ........... eyesight is a rare and precious item that can't be replaced by an artificial aid Quote
reaper Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 i was thinking about it too but i wimped out and decided to go for contacts instead, still a pain in the but better than glasses Quote
Liam Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Rather you than me Thanks for that................ Very usefulll Apologies - moment of flippance at the end of a grim day. I just find the prospect of shaving off some of your eye a bit daunting - you're only issued with two. Opted for contacts myself - very happy with that solution. Quote
Rory's Dad Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I've just got a pair of free contacts from SpecSavers - have had three attempts to get them in 0/2, 1/2, 0/2 - going back for another lesson Had laser treatment to weld torn retina back on - absolutely dreadful experience - but worth it of course. Surgeon had laser welder on his head, two spoons round my eye and his foot on the trigger. I thought I could smell burning Rory's Dad Quote
reaper Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I've just got a pair of free contacts from SpecSavers thats the way i've done it too Quote
Mrs Westy Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I know several people who have had it done and who thoroughly recommend it. I know 2 people (mother and daughter) who have had it done at Ultralase Chelmsford, and the daughter works there as an admin assistant so it must be ok or she wouldn't have done so, or let her mum go there I guess My only recommendation would be to ignore any surgery's suggestion to have both eyes done at the same time - they insist it's safe (and cheaper I should think) but I wouldn't fancy either something going wrong or having an idiosyncratic reaction and being left with no eyes...as opposed to one eye... jeff oakley Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 I went to have it done and had the consultation etc for correcting my distance vision for driving. The killer for me was when they explained that by correcting the shortsighteness I would need to wear reading glasses. So I would end up wearing glasses for longer. I now wear contacts for special driving ie Westfield days and saved about £2k. The one appealed to me was the boots one, the guy who was in charge of the programe did his daughters eyes which is a good recommendation by any standards. look at all the options before making any choice.
