Westie Stolen - please keep a look out

I've just spoken to the police again. The car was 'found' on Satuday. It's at a recovery place waiting for fingerprints to be taken. Not sure what condition its in, whether it still starts/drives etc - I'm not allowed access until they've finished. 3rd hand information from the driver of the recovery truck is along the lines of 'it hasn't been smashed up' but who knows what that means cos they must see some real wrecks.

GOOD LUCK man.

I hope its in tip top condition for ya :(

If they catch the sad f**** who nicked it, get someone to beat them with a crowbar ;)

Sympathies (and am glad to hear that the police have got it).

Do you know "how" they stole it?

i.e.

were keys in or did they hotwire?

did you have any theft prevention devices - removable wheel, locking wheel nuts, immobiliser?

Posted

Sounds like it's been 'hotwired'... the recovery people said 'there are wires all over the place' which sounds messy, plus broken steering lock, etc. it has locking wheel nuts, so they must be still there.

Hopefully no damage, just new steering lock.

Sounds like kids taking it out for a joy ride  :(

Garyo,

I'm moving to Maidenhead in a couple of weeks, so if you need any help repairing or rebuilding, give me a shout and I'd be glad to help. I also have a brand new upper steering column (including lock and keys), which you are welcome to.

Ross, you'll have to come along to the Thames Valley meet - June 9th, noon onwards at the Devil Inn, Knowl Hill - (about 3-4 miles from Maidenhead along the A4 (Bath Road) towards Reading.  I'm sure that Gary will be there (hopefully with his car) :(

I'm also happy to hear it's been recovered. I'll add to the comments here in the hope that there isn't too much damage, and that you can get it fixed soon.

Hi Ross,

Thanks for the offer of the column, sounds like I might need it... although I'm not exactly sure what breaks when a steering lock is broken?   Actually we've met before - I think I bought a spare wheel carrier off you about 12 months ago.

It's a little metal pin that goes into a cut-out section of the steering column. You would need to at least replace the barrel if this is broken, the column would probably be ok. Like I said, mine's got the whole lock and stuff on it if you want it.

Ah, that was you?

What are you doing up this way now?

Ah I remember now... you were in Bristol so one of my friends who was working there dropped round to pick it up.

Glad you got your car back man. I had a MK2 Golf 16v a while ago it got nicked and recovered £500 damage which came out of my pocket as this was the excess on insurance.

I had an immobilised fitted and a month later went away on business for a night came back to see an empty space.

The blood was begining to boil. The car had been found round the corner burnt out cos they couldn't start it.

F**ING SCUM.

Any how hope yours is fixable.

P.S. has any body had an immobiliser fitted to ther cars??

:(
