RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Anyone shed any light on where the engine number is stamped on the zetec? been looking on the net and it states that I should be looking for 2 letters followed by five numbers but I cannot find this set of numbers and letters unless its under my manifold/water rail/engine mounts... Sorry for the dumb question Quote
Gromit Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Normal places are above starter motor on an angle flat next to gearbox housing and the other place i`ve seen (mine has this), is behind the exhaust manifold. HTH Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 nothing on the flat bit... gonna have a look behind the manifold... cheers Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 ok so I have found another set but they are not two letter followed by 5 numbers??? don't want to have to pull the whole of the manifold off as it means draining the entire coolant to get it off... long story Quote
nikpro Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 If there is no engine number on the flat bit you have a 'Nicked' engine and it has been ground off!! Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 which is a nice cheery thought for a sunday night Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 ok then lets say I have got an engine with no number... what come back do I have??? I bought it over a year ago from a respected salvage yard in Gloucester... Obv. I shall be ringing them in the morning Quote
nikpro Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Does it look like a grinder has been accross the surface? Do you have a reciept for the engine? If you do then a C10 trained Police Officer will still be able to get the number off the engine; when the number is stamped in it compresses the metal and using a dye accross the area you can still read the number even though it has been ground down. Verify it is stolen and go back to them and get a refund. Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 no I don;t think so... I painted the engine block when I got it, but you can see no evidence that it has been ground off... Gromit: where abouts under the manifold were your numbers??? Quote
Peter M Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 If its a was a new engine it does not come from ford with an engine number. The engine i bought which was made in 98 was new and did not have a number stamped on the block but was then given a number which was then stamped on.You normally find the engines that westfield buy have no numbers then they are stamped by westfield. Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 when I bought it I was told that it was a 1993 engine? As is states on my invoice slip... so how do I prove its age when going to SVA then? IF I cannot find the number Quote
nikpro Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 You can clearly see the engine number here, bottom right hand side by belhousing: Even if there is a number under the manifold there should still be one here - they are checked at SVA and I don't think you can remove the exhaust to show them. Quote
Peter M Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 If you cant produce evidence of engine age then it will need a cat and meet the current emission regs. Quote
RobC Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 yup there nothing there on mine. So I am guess then that this mean I need a new engine... Quote

Yes it does come from Ford with an Engine number! all blocks are stamped by Ford; don't know where you got this from? Quote
