RS WST Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Looking for an engine for a project to turbo. Want to keep it 4 Cylinder and at least 16 valve if possible. What are the options? I've come accross the 3 Litre 16v 4 cylinder Porsche engine as found in the 1988 944 S2 and the 1993 968 CS. All alloy and I can imagine it will be well designed too. Probably have a steel crank as standard Quote
gadrego Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Think thats as big a 4 cylinder car engine you're going to find. Never thought of it before but I bet it would make a fine engine for a Westy..... if it fits. Quote
RS WST Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Looks small and compact and you can pick up the 2.5L version for about £500 Quote
geelhoed Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 De Dietrich built a 17 liter straight four once. And there's a 12.3l in this bugatti T5 Quote

geelhoed Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Ohhhhhhhh, and I was searching for ships diesels now! Quote
Boomy Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 I know it's not a massive engine cc wise, but the lump in my Saab 900 Talladega is a 2.3 4 cylinder and it's a cracking engine, very responsive. There is a turbo version of the car on ebay now running around 260 bhp iirc, so if they fit, that could be an option. Quote
Blatman Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 What is the largest 4 Cyl engine available? 2.4/2.5L Cossie?. Not as interesting a project as a less common engine, but there are *plenty* of bits around to fit one in a Westfield. I guess it depends on how big of a project you want, and how much dosh you wanna spend... Quote

Every man and his dog have done these to death, Very good engine but fancy something a bit different Quote
Blatman Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Fair enough. Wasn't sure from your initial postings what you were after. I'll see if I can come up with something a little more unusual Quote
Blatman Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 My turn... How about a turbo V8..... What is the largest 4 Cyl engine available Quote
scruffythefirst Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Too easy to do. Have you seen martoons new escort engine Quote
