ecr Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Is this the appropriate forum to share a few details of the build of an Eleven ? Having found and overcome a few problems I would like to record them somewhere to help others Quote
KerryS Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Unless the web police say otherwise, can see no reason why not. May be worth keeping 11 or Eleven in the post title to help future searches. Kerry Quote
Blatman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Hello Roger Assuming it's a Westfield 11, then ignore Kerry and go right ahead. As with Blatchat though, try to keep the posts in the relevant section I know it's not your first time in a Bulletin Board so you'll know what to do Welcome to the bright side Look forward to seeing what you have Quote
Blatman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Sorry mate, just don't under stand why you think that it wouldn't be alright to post information about a Westfield Quote
KerryS Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Thought I'd said it was OK though. Nevermind, he's got his answer. i.e it's OK Kerry Quote
adhawkins Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Unless the web police say otherwise As a member of the 'web police', I'm with Blatman on this...why would we have any objections? Andy Quote
scruffythefirst Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 As a member of the 'web police', I'm with Blatman on this...why would we have any objections? There seems to be objections to all sorts of things on a regular basis round here Quote
KerryS Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Sorry to cause any confusion - unintended. Wil confine future answers to Yes or No or Maybe Kerry Quote
bhouse Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 As a fellow 11 builder who comes across build problems on a regular basis the more you post the better as far as I'm concerned! Quote
MAT1800 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Not seen much about the elevens on here, be good to see some progress reports from you guys. Any build sites? Quote
scott beeland Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 I wanna see Westfield relaunch the "Sports" which was a slightly updated version of the 11 using an IRS chassis. Past wscc chairman dave drew had one in 1993/94 with a cvh turbo in it that went like bejeeezus and sounded awesome Quote
ecr Posted March 6, 2006 Author Posted March 6, 2006 Forum discussions are the same the world over eh Blatman ? (I feel right at home ) Yes it's a Westfield XI Generally a great little kit but with a woefully slim build manual. I took the opportunity to take detailed photos of the demonstrator and found myself refering to them continualy. If I was building one for myself (and I am sorely tempted to do so) I would modify the fuel tank by flattening off the Dee of the tank. This would remove the need to cut away all of the alloy bodywork flange in the tank area and eliminate the weakening in that area. I found it impossible to remove the distributor cap due to fouling on the chassis (which is completely unacceptable) and the solution was to make a half inch thick packer to fit under the offside engine mount thus tilting the engine slightly. The cap can now be removed (just). I have to say that I am not absolutely sure at this stage that the bonnet will still clear the top of the engine and if it doesn't then mods to the oil filler spout will be needed. Because I fitted the brake pipes without the engine in place (best way really) I found problems with the brake light pressure switch fouling. The positioning is fairly critical (in the position that the demonstrator has it) too far one way and the connections foul the engine, too far the other and you foul the steering column. I would fit the chassis rivnuts for the starter solenoid before fitting the engine (it is positioned in the rectangular cut out at the base of the scuttle). With the engine in and with my large rivnut tool it is difficult. Ditto for the horn mounting rivnut I brazed nuts back onto the modified gearbox mount. It is entirely possible to fit the gearbox without this but the nature of the car is that the box will need to come out occasionaly and brazed nuts make it so much easier to refit. I am fitting the bodywork which Westfield normaly do at the factory and discovered that a modified rear hinge bracket is now used. The early one is way out so if you have fitting problems here perhaps this is the answer. More items as they come to mind. I am happy to discuss my build experiences with other builders Quote
Blatman Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Forum discussions are the same the world over eh Blatman ? (I feel right at home ) They certainly have a familair feel to them in "our" part of the world at any rate. Nice to see you here I trust Anna Rexia is in good form? Quote
