jeff oakley Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Whilst Bear is clearly moved by these sort of things I saw that and laughed. It is a fake no question but it does rasie the question of what people see some will do. They are in the minority but they do exist. Now drawing the line in what should be censored is another thing. As a kid did you watch Tom and Jerry Roadrunner and Wylie kyote? I did but it never occured to me to try to strap a dog to a rocket to catch a bird after watching these cartoons, should we ban these as well? And that is the dilema, what upsets and offends one will not another, what incites some will not the majority. I sympathise with your feelings and admire your willingness to stand up for what you belive in but I do not feel it is necessary censor this thread.

I cant give it if I cant take it back so ....... It is good to debate, I do like a good argument thats why I'm a grumpy old man! I therefore retract my request to remove this thread in the spirit of honest debate.

Mrs Westy Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Yes yes it's all very interesting, but I think you're all missing some very vital parts of the debate. You will find the missing parts here and here
pistonbroke Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Found it mildly amusing but completly inoffensive , obvious that its a fake , sort of thing you see quite a lot of on TV where a dummy pet gets some sort of mis adventure e.g. ever see A Fish Called Wanda ? with the harmless old lady whose pet pooch takes the brunt of an failed assisination ? Hilearious afaic Dont think I hate animals though , In fact I quite like them
a4gom Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 I'm just off out to force a crash helmet onto a bear, who's with me.
the bear Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Yes yes it's all very interesting, but I think you're all missing some very vital parts of the debate. You will find the missing parts here and here Yep some seem to miss the point intentionally. This is not the first posting on the site that has clearly divided opinions. I have as you can tell very strong views on the subject and up to now had managed to avoid entering into the debate. I am not advocating censorship, what I am requesting is that some members show enough restraint to ensure that other members are not offended by the content or embarassed to be associated with the club. It might be an idea to remember that this is after all a kit car forum, that's why I joined, it enables me to gain differing views on the potential modifications and the merits or otherwise on the many variations that can be achieved with a car I wanted for a long time. I truly believe in freedom of speech but surely this is not what the WSCC is about. I have very strong opinions on many subjects and generally only respond with my views when really provoked. This is not a mechanism for me to promote my views at the potential expense of others and I don't agree that it is right for others to do so either. If I have missed the point and the majority of users do want to see this type of posting continue then I have made a misjudgement and I will operate my freedom of choice and leave the WSCC. I will say in closing though that the thought that the majority of Westfield owners could be viewed in this way devalues my enjoyment of the car and therefore I hope that the majority view is against questionable humour of this type. I will say this again it is an open forum and visitors to it draw conclusions about the members from the postings.

pistonbroke Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 this is after all a kit car forum should that read "kitty car " forum
Blatman Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 It might be an idea to remember that this is after all a kit car forum, that's why I joined, it enables me to gain differing views on the potential modifications and the merits or otherwise on the many variations that can be achieved with a car I wanted for a long time. By definition, this is the "Genral Chat" forum. IMHO, that means that users can waffle on about anything they choose to. If your only reason to be here is to learn about technical aspects and modifications, then maye you should restrict your surfing to the techie and newbie forums. In the same way that if something on telly offends you, you can turn it off. So if you think something/most things/everything in the chat section is going to cause offence, then don't go in there. I have very strong opinions on many subjects and generally only respond with my views when really provoked. This is not a mechanism for me to promote my views at the potential expense of others and I don't agree that it is right for others to do so either. Yet you feel it necessary to try to control the content that *you* object to by asking a moderator to delete the thread with no further debate. I currently have very strong opinions about a couple of issues on here, but I *know* that voicing them *will* cause offence and I *will* be in the minority. So I bite my lip. If that's the hardest thing I ever have to do round here I shall count myself lucky. But if you want cruelty, you should have seen the original unedited footage of Ken Bigleys beheading at the hands of his Iraqi captors. It was so disgusting that I don't have the vocabulary to describe it. By comparison a fake cat video that's been doing the rounds for 3 or 4 years is a *very* minor thing... If I have missed the point and the majority of users do want to see this type of posting continue then I have made a misjudgement and I will operate my freedom of choice and leave the WSCC. I don't think you've missed the point, so much as missed your focus. Clearly the WSCC is not a focus point for general nastiness. It's just that this particular issue has struck a nerve surrounding a subject that you care passionately about. No-one will criticise you for having deep feelings, but your atempt to project those feelings on others is destined to fail on everyone save for those who have equally deep feelings on the matter. I will say this again it is an open forum and visitors to it draw conclusions about the members from the postings. I agree, and I think that this has actually been a very good discussion. The readers *will* be able to draw a fairly good idea of what we are like and what we are about when faced with a controversial subject.
