Sam Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Hello, Have been looking through past posts and there are a few different ways that people are mounting the fule pump under the fuel tank. Does anyone have any advise or pics as to the best way of doing this? Sam Quote
steppenwolf Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I would prefer to mount mine with Rivnuts - the trouble with bolting through the chassis is that you can compress the rail. Quote
kevip6 Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Hi Sam, I assume you're running a fuel injection pump? As far as places to fit it, it depends if you want to run a pre pump filter or not. I'm not and so i put it on the underside of the chassis rail at the front of the fuel tank as you can see here Mine attached with bolts running through the rail. Rivnuts would be better IMO but i didn't have a rivnut tool at the time This keeps the pipe from the fuel tank outlet to the pump down to a few inches If you wanted to pre pump filter then check out Tiggers Build Site for details HTH Kev Quote
Sam Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 Yeah sorry i am running a fuel injection pump. I dont have a rivnut tool either, maybe i need to invest. Although the idea of bolting it through the rail seems like a more secure one. I need more rivnut experience. Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 As far as places to fit it, it depends if you want to run a pre pump filter or not. A pre pump filter is a must, not an option... Quote
Sam Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 I have been told that there is a finger filter in my tank therefore i dont need a pre pump filter. By Mark at Westfield. Quote
kevip6 Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I didn't get a rivnut tool until i needed to bolt my fuel pressure regulator to the underside of the front chassis rail and couldn't bolt all the way through as the body tub has to rest on the top. Best tool i've bought, there are so many places a rivnut it a better option. You can pick the tool up cheaply as well, mine was £20 from a Motor Factor and came with a handfull of rivnuts for each size Quote

I'd start using a different garage if you're getting enough fingers floating in yer tank to need a special filter. Yuk Quote

Graham Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 There is a 'finger filter' in the tank but it's pretty course. I wouldn't think it's fine enough to act as an injection pump pre-filter. Graham. Quote
Sam Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 I am just going on what Mark Walker has said? How much is a fuel filter? Quote
kevip6 Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I was told the same thing by Westfield I assume the factory built cars rely on this filter as the pump pre-filter? Is that enough of an assurance though Quote
