Phil. S Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Can you attach the two upper straps to a single, central eye bolt, ie, on a car that was designed for a three point harness? If so I'll 'ave 'em. But I'm worried this might fail scrutineering at an SS event.
slippy Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 I dare say you could but I don't ref scrutineering if somebody else would like to confirm it would be ok then they are yours mate
Mark Stanton Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 But I'm worried this might fail scrutineering at an SS event. The scrutes would possibly have a fit - the belts would not be being used correctly as per design - If you have 3 lugs then get a proper 3 point harness Sorry to wet your chips Slippy ................. but this is a safety issue and no jokes on this one (see lack of smilies)
slippy Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 Knickers, Phil do you not have the threade holes already ?

I'm not sure how it would be less safe than a three point harness though, since the single mounting point takes both shoulder straps anyway. Why does it matter whether the two straps are sewn together to one anchor point, or have two straps separately anchored to the same point? I'm not being argumentative: just curious.
Phil. S Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Knickers, Phil do you not have the threade holes already ? Do you mean the threads for the separate mounting bolts? No. Mine's an older model that just has the one upper mounting point. I think you can buy additional mounting threads from Westfield and get them welded on, and I may do this. But I'd rather not as it would mean I would have to redo my boot cover and I've only just got it how I want it.
slippy Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 Don't blem you if it's anything like mine it was a fooking ball ache
adhawkins Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I'm not sure how it would be less safe than a three point harness though, since the single mounting point takes both shoulder straps anyway. A three point harness is designed specifically to keep the two shoulder straps apart in an impact. Put four points onto a three point mount and you've got a good chance of the shoulder straps taking your head off. Andy
Mark Stanton Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 and you've got a good chance of the shoulder straps taking your head off. I have a cunning plan
Phil. S Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 Put four points onto a three point mount and you've got a good chance of the shoulder straps taking your head off. Yeh, but apart from that it would be safe right? Ok, Ok, I'm persuaded. Am I right in thinking that Westfield sell mounting points that can be welded in? Any idea how much they are?
