bultacobarry Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Was about to start fixing up an absolutely knackered Honda Chaly monkey bike to use as a pitbike this year. I couldn't really be bothered working on it though. I think I will modify my trailer to fit my road legal DRZ400 sideways in front of the car. Does anybody out there carry a full size bike on a trailer infront of their Westfield ? The majority of the weight should still be on the towbar end. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 And there's me thinking that a pitbike was a female of easy virtue who hung around the pit head baths! Quote
funbobby Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I bought one of those mini moto gp thingys for a pit bike - 49 cc and 50 mph feels quite quick on one of those wee bikes. Good laugh to, Me Slippy and Della (all around 30) were bombing round Tesco's car park at 10 o clock at night like a load of Pikeys untill Della tried a wheelie and it shot him off the back Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Check your entry regs for circuits - there are some that do not allow use of motorised paddock bikes (mainly smaller tracks) and check your "nose-weight" on trailer/tow ball 75 to 90 kgs max I think (check) Quote
bultacobarry Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 How do you easily check the nose weight of a loaded trailer ? I Will only use paddock bike for Hills, Tracks are easier as we are all in a paddock. On the hills here we all line up along the side of a road. So if you are late it can be a 0.5 mile walk to the starting line/registration/toilets/burger van. Quote
Guest Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 There's a couple of "big pit bikes" here. Take yur pick Quote
Blatman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Check the nose weight by setting the ball on the trailer to the same height as when it is attached to the tow bar. Then place a set of bathroom scales and a piece of 2x2 under the ball socket and on the scales, checking that the height is still the same as when it's attached to the tow bar. More than 75 Kg's is not just *bad*, it's a potential insurance get out as well as a nick, if you're unlucky enough to get pulled, and it does happen... Quote
Blatman Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Blimey, Steve Davies... Whatever happened to him? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I Will only use paddock bike for Hills MMMMMMMMMMMMMM not sure ............... I don't think you are allowed to use a motorised vehicle to "recce" a sprint of hillclimb circuit prior to you directly competing in an event (check) I know it is written into a number of regs Noseweight - You can purchase a nose-weight gauge from Towsure or most caravan/trailer specialists component suppliers no doubt there's also a cheaper option with some bathroom scales Quote
bultacobarry Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 There's a couple of "big pit bikes" here. Take yur pick Don't like the look of your one mate, not into beards and beer bellies myself Our hills are all public road courses, the roads normally close 30 minutes before the 1st practice run. On some hills we have to drive up the course to get to the pit area. So as long as your vehicle is road legal and you are not acting like a pratt I don't see a problem. Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 No offence Barry but have u lost the use of your legs or something?...what’s wrong with walking? It amazes me that people can't be bothered to walk up and down a pit line far enough if you normally use an 'Ironside' I find walking up & down the pit lane apart from the exercise thing anyway its a chance to talk to people. and as for using the bike for a recce I think that would be an absolute no no. I don't think you can even ride a bike a round. Mind you walking and doing a recce makes no difference anyway...well not at midnight with a torch at Croft & a 6 pack of Stella. It took me around 40 mins to complete which is 30 secs faster than if I was in the car the following day, the conversation was a giggle with security when they pulled up a long side entering Tower… What ya doin? Havin’ a beer and walking the course...but its 12.30am mate he said yah but you need to be at one with the circuit. Erm ya right mate see you later shouting out as the car drove off watch out for the magic pixies!............. and I know that won't happen again as I have quit drinking alcohol Buzz Quote
Mrs Westy Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 Is that a "I hope Rachel never sees this photo" look on Ash's face there? Quote
