EKR 270C The same week in the Motoring News my Elans, 1275S Cooper, Escort Twin Cam all got sold!! Oh the joys of being spoilt with company cars!! are your shins black and blue from the kicking you keep givin your self for sellin it if only we had a crystal ball. same can be said for house prices .. StuartMackay Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Yeah Jeff they are a bit sore!! However at the time I got a reasonable price when I sold it in 1985. I had stripped and restored the whole body and with a fresh Holbay TwinCam, I think I got about £1500.... However looking on the bright side, a friend of mine sold his ex Mansell FW07 back to Frank Williams for £150k, hr had paid £75k and thought...stonking deal......a year later the Sultan of Brunei bought it with 8 (! others and paid a £1million for each chassis!! DOH!! Quote
pistonbroke Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Blu88y eck ! Used to see em racing int 60's alway's wanted one but Santa was in some sort of cash flow probs in them days . I bought a 1965 vauxhaull VX490 101 not my first car but my first and only brand new one . Previously had an Austin A35 Van and had just passed my test and got me first proper job (loaded £17.50 per week ! Went for the VX cause I liked the drivers compartment and it was different . turned out it was a DOG to drive and a rust bucket but I had fun (and several accidents ) in it . Progressed through a wide range of company vans / cars, all Ford or GM 27 years of motoring madness all sponsered by Thorn Electronics . Must have driven a million + miles and twice as many smiles Quote
wipper Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 Started very dodgy and think I've improved: GTA Metro 1.6 Pug GTI Renault Laguna 2.0 1.9 Pug GTI XR2i - had for 3 weeks until the door fell off! (welded it back on at work and flogged it to a garage quick) another Pug 1.9 GTI Pug 306 turbo diesel Audi A4 Tdi My first westy - a purple 1600 crossflow Lotus Elise Lotus Esprit Turbo S4 - mad car and made as if it was off Blue Peter! My second and current Westy - a yellow 2.0 vx My current Audi A4 avant 130 sport - Top car. a DB9, Zonda, Ford GT.............sorry are we just talking about the past? Quote
Kevin Wood Posted December 7, 2005 Posted December 7, 2005 1984 Volvo 340 GL - It was technically my mum's at the time but included for comedy value. Neither myself nor either of my 2 brothers managed to kill it despite ruthless thrashing such was the resilience of the bl**dy thing. Tried to destroy it once but my mistake was to chuck it into the corner of a Renault 5. Mental note to find something more solid next time. It certainly finished off the Renault though! Eventually a white van man did the decent thing. 1981 Morris Ital 1.7 Estate - Plenty of room for carting p1ssed engineering students around. Never has 87BHP been so dangerous due to the most shocking suspension imagineable. What were they on? Kept having to cut length off the mud flaps to stop them dragging on the ground when it rolled on the bends. At 100,000 miles engine was still sweet but got fed up with patching the body up and sea-sickness. 1991 Rover 214SI. Not much to report. Excellent timing - Sold it about 1,000 miles before the inevitable K series head gasket debacle. Only regret is selling it to a mate's brother. 1996 Renault Laguna 1.8 RT Sport. Unremarkable to drive but cheap, reliable transport when it's tin-top weather. Having said that, drives better at 120,000 than the rover did at 20,000. 2000 SEiW with Tuned 2.0 Zetec on TBs. There's something about this one that sets it apart from the rest... As you can probably gather I tend to keep my cars way beyond the time at which they become an embarrasment! Kevin Quote
