Westfields Rock On Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 After owning a Westy for many years, Ive learnt that some of you out there now a little about lightweight parts and losing unessessary weight. Ive got myself into a race with a narky git with a slightly lighter car than me but less power. But I always think less weight is the way to go. Now Im driving a Triumph GT6, and was wondering whether anyone had any pointers. Ive got aluminium backplate and front plate, GRP parts to replace fiberboard. Is there anymore I can do? Cheers. Quote
hilux Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Ahem, A huge satisfying dump just before the `race` is an amazingly cheap way to lose weight IMO (can I post that?) Oops I just did................... Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 yes, that would lose me about 500grams. I need good/interesting ideas. Looking at some wilwood 4 pots to reduce weight. Quote
pistonbroke Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 alli calipers will reduce unsprung weight , a great place to save as this will also help your road holding qualities Is there anywhere you can remove metal from the chassis or body panels etc once got told that if every bolt on the car that protruded was cropped short to the minimum the total weight reduction could be significant . Rob Navin Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Bernie is spot on. You can save a lot of weight with a hack saw. You laos needd to look at every part of the car and ask Do you need it ? If not bin it. Can it be made lighter ? If it can't can I buy something that will be lighter ? My x-flow car now weighs in at 500kgs in road going spec by following this thought process. Quote
oldman Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Look...lighten up.Yer being fat too serious Quote
Rob Navin Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Look...lighten up.Yer being fat too serious Hey who you callin fat Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 im quite a lardy b******* and am gunna lose at least 10kg. the race is between a 870 kg GT6 with 150bhp, and a 720kg Spitfire with 120bhp. mines running on AVOs and at the mo handles like its on rails, yoko a539s, rear parcel shelfs are being binned, carpets binned, seat out, radio out, radio consol being done in ally, bumpers off, no spare. Head will be given some treatment for more flowageness. Weight being put on is a 6-3-1 wrapped mani, oil cooler and airbox. At the moment a gear box, overdrive, uprated clutch kit, oil cooler, cam, manifold and roller rockers are on the way/awaiting installation I really wanna whoop this guys ass. He wouldnt race me at cadwell, he'll only do mallory because the current reigning champion went round with him this year telling him the track. But I know another of the racing chaps so i can get some advice Quote
steve_m Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 What about the glass ? Replaced with perspex ? I'd get some practice . . . Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 I would get some practice but its expensive. Even though s**t compared with people on this board, theres no doubt im a better driver. no doubt at all. not being bigheaded about it, but when ive seen him breaking in corners and crossing his hands over I dont have much respect for his skills. Plus I was taught a thing or 2 by a jag racing driver, malcolm someone, which made me realise how bad a driver i was straight out of the driving intructors car. If anyone has some incar vids of mallory that would be great. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 and exactly what championship series will you be racing each other in at Mallory Not merely a non competitve track day or test session I hope Cos you may find you'll both be turfed straight off in seen racing Quote
felters Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Can't see any mention of dumping the heater? Radio consol??? Why bother with one at all? One legal way to race would be to go to a run what you brung session at 'Pod... Quote
Westfields Rock On Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 wont be racing each other directly, just there on the same day. usually the spits and gt6s are in different classes. And if my mate happens to accidently video my laps and his laps when i might look at the time markings. Quote
