goaferboy
iv just sat through most of my break at work listening to some "friends" prattling on about how ill hate to own a westfield and that they cant wait to see my face when it breaks down over and over again. so how often does everyones westfield break down/need work ,and so iv got a rough guide as to how good the cheaper ones are, how much did it cost you to buy (if you dont mind answering)

TrevP
my last car i had (1800 zetec seiw) did 8000 miles in 9 months and the only problem i had was putting a rather large hole in the sump.
budmikem
I got mine earlier this year...1600 crossflow...slightly above £5k....done about 2,000 miles this year....its not broken down....lost a rear light lense the only problem. Not been in a garage....just tightened a few bolts and checked levels and thats it. Most pre-90's car use to stop on 'ignition type' failure....so fit a decent electronic system..... if its got twin webers get them set up by a specialist [then dont touch]... make sure coolant system is efficent. For 'smiles per mile' it beats anything....and am a devoted Land Rover anorak...... just get one. If I was starting again would go for a Pinto SEiW
Blatman
1998 Vx wide body. Only breakdown was self induced. It's as reliable as my diesel Mondeo, but a bit less boring...

goaferboy
thanks for all the help. im not too fussed about the occasional breakdown since the car i currently drive (golf mk2) breaks down quite a bit in the winter (its at the garage as i write this). its just id rather not spend a lot of money on a car thats going to sit in a garage when i could be out posing definately filled me with a bit more confidence in them anyway. Blatman
The cars aren't inherently unrelaible. It's what people do to them that makes them unreliable...

Blatman
E: It'll Turn Heads just about Everywhere Oh yes. Drove past Harrods in mine on Bank Holiday Monday. There was a Bentley Coupe thing behind me, and a Merc SL55AMG in front. No-one was looking or waving at them...
melt
It's as reliable as any other car out there, but the silly grin on your face when you drive it is priceless
Persil
Had mine 2 years . 1800 Zetec Seiw Faults = Broken Speedo Breakdowns = 0 At the end of the day its gonna be more reliable to a certain point as it has no AC/EW/ES/PS/ABS/ or the other 101 names for creature comforts. What most of them have is an engine from a mainstream car. And unless you have no mechanical sympathy it should run and run and run Persil
