For Newbies - avoid this trick

Last year I removed the propshaft to have the U-joints replaced. When I reinstalled the shaft, I did not have new lock nuts handy, so I reinstalled the old ones. I knew from reading that one should never do this, but heck, they looked just fine.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed a rubbing sound when I returned from a drive. I checked under the car and discovered that one securing bolt for the propshaft and final drive was MISSING and the other three were loose.

I would hate to be driving when the propshaft lets go.

I hope that anyone who has reused lock nuts in critical places takes the time to raise the car and check.
