Peter Cox Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 [wakes up] yawn.....!!! "Where's me f***** stella's gone? Aah ****e, the lads will be well disappointed that I've lost the beers, even though I drank more than half of them meself. Oh well, where's the supermarket?" Quote
More toys Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 oioi - thanks for the link. Enough info even for me (I could face reading to the bitter end). OK, so for you old hacks who have been reading this post for years have some dumb a*se like me asking the same old questions is a bit dull, but YES I diduse the serch button... So can anybody point me at a link about the pinto. Most of the common engine choices I feel I know something about. I know nothing about the pinto - is it a good choice. Quote

So can anybody point me at a link about the pinto. Most of the common engine choices I feel I know something about. I know nothing about the pinto - is it a good choice. Pinto is generally regarded as being OK, if a bit heavy. Its an engine that gives good low down torque, rather than being free-revving......(in standard, low budget form). Pinto cars tend to be pretty reasonable price-wise as are x-flows. 16V engined cars tend to me more expensive but are reckoned to be worth the extra. The pinto is the old Cortina unit.........nuff said? Hope that helps a bit... stands back Quote
Blatman Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 I'm with Chrisbin. Whilst the Pinto is a fine engine, it is easily outclassed by even a modest 16 valver. As with most things, buy the best/newest you can afford... Whether it is a good choice or not is not something any of us are going to agree on too readily. The question to ask is "Is it a good choice for me". Quote
More toys Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 I had 1700 X/flow C**erham. No real problem in going for the same engine, except I feel I have been there and done it. I loved it and it gave a 200bhp VX, 6speed money pit special a decent run for its money around Lydden on a track day. I really want a motor that will give me 170ish bhp odd, which is more extream that I fancy going with a X/flow. as ever it will come down to how much money I have to spend. Magabusa would be my preferred choice if anybody has one going for 6K Quote

Magabusa would be my preferred choice if anybody has one going for 6K Standard 2 litre Zetec or VX should see you at 160bhp'ish A pinto with that kind of output will be quite a special (expensive) bit of kit........ Since you obviously fitted in a Caterham previously, you might want to search for a standard/narrow bodied 16V car....these go for a bit less than the wide body's and you might just get one in the £6k region......with some hard negotiation...... Alternatively/ideally get another £2k together and then you will be able to pick and choose..... Quote
More toys Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 Since you obviously fitted in a Caterham previously Ah well sort of. Actually I didn't fit well well into the Caterham. whilst only 5 11, I have along back. I made a very thin custom bench seat (with those foam bed rolls from Millets). Despite being uncomfortable it still bearly bearly gave me enough head room. When ever the roof was up I felt I had to hunch to see out the top of the screen. The complete inpracticality of the Caterham really got to me - I find the bike far better. I was thinking that a wide Westy might be a lot better. Quote
More toys Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 You used the roof...................? Hmm, an observation from Blatchat. Read the posts and you get the impression that 90% of owners don't even have a roof. See the cars on the road and its a different story.... Amazing how the man with no roof can also drink 20 pints in one night, and is only single because it would be selfish to deprive all the other wimen of his bedtime tackle Quote
chrisbin Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Well, not going to comment about Blatchat....but I was speaking from experience....and in 2 1/2 years of ownership I only used the roof once, and that was because it was wet the day I bought it, and the owner had put the roof up for me..... I didn't use it everyday (not that many people do) so could choose my weather IYSWIM. But even then, I did get caught a few times, but providing you have a tonneau, and you keep moving....its fine!! I'm sure some of this year's Coast 2 Coast'ers will be along soon........ Quote
scott beeland Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Oh we got WET on c2c 2005 allright Well at least the car did (waterproofs from M&P kept me sorted). It was like white water rafting at times Quote
