jak Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Just one thought, how about a 'madness kit builders' bulk buy ? Thought not. oh well. Whoo, not so fast there - come into my office and discuss this, may be interested depending on numbers Quote
MAT1800 Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 Hi guys, Well I spent some time last night checking out what I would need to get the TB conversion. The list is longer than I had hoped To start with TB's (pair) , Fuel Rail and horns from Jenvey. Then I / We need Injectors ? x4 Throttle position sensor Fuel Regulator Manifold And also maybe a swirl pot and various snesors?? This lot would (bought seperately) cost close but less than the quoted price for the Scholar kit. It would then depend if the MBE ECU can be remapped to suit, if so then it's a question as to how difficult the conversion would be. If a new ECU is needed then the Scholar kit seems the best buy, particularly if they are Jenvey TB's Although you've got to consider the Scholar kit is just that a complete kit, so might be worth paying a few quid more for peace of mind, being able to get the whole job done in one session, without needing more stuff etc etc. So would there, realistically in a couple of weeks (or if not a couple of months) be any interest in a bulk buy, I belive it worked with the Roll cages, so why not? Also you probably have to add in the cost of a RR session to get everything running smoothly and get the most out of your shiney new kit, so that's an additional £500 ish on top! ? ! Mat. Quote
thos Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Ring a few places like Raceline, Dunnell, Burton, and Scholar, tell them what you want and see what they'll sell you - you can them compare the kit-list versus price, and see what your money is buying you. Quote
Blatman Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 In the UK, if you're buying TB's, ignore the name on the badge. Chances are they're Jenveys... You should be able to save some money by buying direct from Jenvey. Talk to Simon in Sales, and tell him I sent you... Quote
MAT1800 Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 Cheers, I'm going to spend a couple of days thinking all of this thro'. At least I now (I hope ) understand what I need, where to get it, and roughly how much to pay. Blatters, I agree Simon is very helpfull, in fact he's got a very nice Westi, with a Vauxhall engine he's selling for about £10k, if anyone is interested. Anyway... I might just go for a suspension and RR setup for now, save my money, and plan to get the bits ready for when it's too cold for wimps like me to be out in a Westi. perhaps Oct time. Unless there is a flood of other people out there wanting the same bits and we can sort out some serious discounts. Or I win the loto. Five numbers the other week ! one short Mat. Quote
KerryS Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Mat My immediate plans are to put anti-freeze in before it gets cold , to change the sump for a proper one (if I fit WF's it doesn't invalidate the warranty I have been told by WF) and then to take it to Trev at Transpower in Chesterfield, who come highly recommended, to have a proper suspension set-up which will hopefully help with the vagueness in the straight ahead position on the steering. My thoughts had been to let the 12 months warranty take place and then look into fitting throttle bodies - not that SWMBO knows all this yet - hopefully by that time I might have learnt how to drive the thing reasonably. Oh! And I'll change the oil and filter when I do the sump. So not grandiose plans at the moment. Kerry Quote
Blatman Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 My immediate plans are to put anti-freeze in before it gets cold Please tell me you have soemthing other than plain water in there right now... Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Hmm, just finished helping getting a crossflow back on the road that hadn't had antifreeze, (or wetting stuff) in it. Needed both a new head and a new rad in the end. Plus as it had been layed up for a couple of years, new front calipers/discs to replace the rusted solid old ones. Quote
Darrell O'Neill Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 My immediate plans are to put anti-freeze in before it gets cold Please tell me you have soemthing other than plain water in there right now... Stella works for me That has coolant and anti-rust agents in it, does'nt it? Quote
S13RUM Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I could be interested if the bulk buy is a bargin Quote
neville Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 My summer madness was upgraded to Jenvey 45mm TB's last year by its previous owner. All parts were supplied by Westfield and the total cost was (swallow hard) £1795. Broken down bit by bit this included: new MBE ECU £446 wiring loom £167 inlet manifold £125 TB's £359 air cleaner element £59 fuel injector £178 fuel regulator £38 Throttle position sensor £41 Lambda sensor £41 Air horns £46 Air temperature sensor £18 I belive that he fitted them himself with no huge problems and the basic MBE map seems pretty good - so good in fact that I haven't bothered getting it remapped on a rolling road. So far this year I've done over 3000 miles and a number of track days with no problems. Hope this helps! Neville Quote

Owen9364 Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I would also be interested in a bulk buy deal Quote
jak Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Matt, I may be interested, let me know if it looks like a possibility, I am very interested, but it would depend on the cost and whether I can get it passed the finance director (SWMBO ) John. Quote
