Blatman Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Hi, I'm not a hundred percent sure it's a service item. I read a tuning book somewhere about enlarging the holes in the spray bar - I think! Ta Geoff I wouldn't. Enlarging the holes will reduce oil pressure as it traverses the bar. Not good if it needs pressure to ensure they all spray X amount of oil a certain distance... Quote
geofff Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Hi Blatman, If I have time I might dust off my old Vizard Pinto tuning book at home......if I can find it Ta Geoff Quote
Pembroke Pat Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I may be wrong but I seem to remember that Pinto means little horse. Don't boast about your Pinto in Brazil as a pinto is slang for a small penis Quote
darthurs Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I may be wrong but I seem to remember that Pinto means little horse. Don't boast about your Pinto in Brazil as a pinto is slang for a small penis It's not usually advisable to boast about your pinto on here, the amount of stick us pinto boys get. Dan Quote
karlgurney Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 At least us pinto boys don't have to get a small mortgage out when our engine gives up on us Quote
scruffythefirst Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Pinto's are great engines, cosworth had to start with something didn't they. Thank god it wasn't a zetec Quote

funbobby Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Ive just picked up a replacement 2.0 ltr PINTO engine from a Ford Sierra Sapphire Pick Up (I think thats what it is) with a guarranteed 28k miles on the clock for a 100 quid. My Mechanic had to sprint to get it mind as all the MII Escort rally boys were after it. We went to hear it running and it sounds brand new - absolutely mint. A quick recon (if it needs it) and fitting of all the tuning gear/mods from my old one and Im back on the road at last. Quote
geofff Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 Did the P100 have a different cam? Not a torque cam or anything like that was it? I'm don't know for certain I'm just asking the question Ta Geoff Quote
88xflo Posted August 16, 2005 Posted August 16, 2005 I'm no expert but used to run a number of pinto's over many years. As far as I'm aware, there is'nt an inherent problem with the spray bar as such, more to do with dirty oil and contamination from poor maintenance blocking the oil delivery holes in the bar (however, I think that in the dim and distant past there were QC problems with a batch of bars, hence the reputation that the pinto somewhat unfairly acquired). The function of the spray bar can be checked easily and quickly simply by lifting the cam cover and cranking over the motor with the ignition disabled, there should be a nice even delivery onto each cam lobe. If you've got a bar that's clear and delivering full, unrestrcted flow from each hole, acknowledged wisdom is to leave be and keep it that way with very regular oil and filter changes and for peace of mind repeat the simple visual check at each oil change.
