bill shurvinton Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 How did you get the air filter through SVA? I was wondering that too. Nice install. Not one I would do myself, but very pleased someone else has. Really didn't think an SBC would fit. Just needs an EFI system now :-) Quote
Bazzer Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Like bill it’s not my bag, but it is an outstanding build and it looks fabulous. The attention to detail looks spot on. I am glad that people do these sorts of things as its good to push the limits. Well done Barry, with your skill set you should build a GT40 or a Cobra or something in that vein. You would make a great job of a car like that. All the Best Bazzer Quote

Bazzer Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 How much chassis work have you done to stop it twisting up like a corkscrew :-) Particularly interested inwhat you have done in the diff area, as this is something I need to look at. Bazzer Quote
thos Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Sweet. So is that the biggest engine to ever go in a Westfield then ? Quote
Martin Keene Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Just got to be. How much chassis work have you done to stop it twisting up like a corkscrew :-) Particularly interested inwhat you have done in the diff area, as this is something I need to look at. Interesting question, isn't the chassis rated at 300bhp? Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 The rear end has all been braced there are cross bars coming up from the diff mounts and the bush mounts have all been reinforced with gusset plates. The engine is sat on large rubber mounts which in turn sit on mounting blocks made up with 1/4 plate and the engine has a tie bar on the front same as the sport 2000s to cut down on side to side movement. When I asked the same question to the suspension guy who builds chassis for race cars he replied the westfield chassis is the strongest in its class and will not twist. Ok I understand the engine is way overpowered for the car but who gives !!!! Still a lot of fun and the praise from others makes it all worth while. A sheep I am deffinatley not!!! Barry Home made engine mounts note the bell housing now wider 35mm either side and 25mm at the top. Quote
Gazza Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 dont worry about the chassis twisting - it'll surely spin the wheels as a 'safety valve' well before you get halfway to 500bhp! Quote
Peter Cox Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Ok I understand the engine is way overpowered for the car ... [Luddite] ...is that possible? [/Luddite] Nice installation, cool looking car. Though I'm sure someone's going to mention the chocolate bar just behind your head and the fact that you have a small clock. Quote
Bazzer Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Do you have any pictures of the diff bracing ? I will only have 350BHP but will be giving it death with 10" slicks :-) I have a funny feeling the standard diff cage won't like this :-) I can see from the pictures its designed to be a Super GT, not a race car. I am sure it will be fine !!! As I said earlier fantastic job Bazzer Quote
