Whilst I'm obviously gutted at missing the pictures.....

Shouldn't what seems to be an amendment to the rules re posting inappropriate stuff be added to the terms of service rather than be buried away at the end of an old topic?

By amendment I mean the part about having membership removed which is not mentioned in the terms of service.

Also, perhaps the terms of service should be linked at the top of the page as I could only find them by going to the new registration page.

From the rules..

You must not post any malicious or offending articles. To do so risks action being taken against you as well as the club.

The action doesn't appear to be specified, so I guess the punishment will fit the crime as the Committee members see fit...

Mike , while i am not offended by any of these pics ,i do realise that there are younger members of our society that may visit various car forums (we all would if it had been around in our day ) ,and dispite my contraversial views and comments sometimes i firmly belive that kids should be protected from porn (not that those pictures were porn .more horror )

If everyone is responsible then porn will flurish else where where we can all access it if we choose , but when there is a crossover into general day to day sites then someone one day will crack down .

Its a double edged sword really so maybe the punishment is justified .

The pictures were removed after complaints were received.

I am normally very strict when it comes to removing pictures of near naked people and such like. There have been 2 or 3 posts recently that I have let pass to see if the board membership is mature enough to police itself when such things are posted. Turns out "we" aren't. Two individuals stand out for this, and their activity will be watched closely.

There has been no amendment to the rules. The Committee will take any action we see fit to police the boardroom. Punitive action will be decided on a case by case basis. In my experience though, a warning that harsh punishment *might* be dished out usually goes ignored, and I'm not one for politically correct prevarocating. Break the rules, *expect* be punished. Simple. For the most part, "we" are well behaved, and I have so far not had to do anything other than remind members of what will happen if they don't observe good judgement. The pictures I deleted, along with the "humourous" comments had no relevance on a car site. As I said in my closing post, if you want to indulge in such activity, there are better places than the WSCC web site to do it. I was both surprised and disappointed that I had to intervene, but I can fully understand why I received complaints.

If there are any more questions or comments, please make them to me at secretary@wscc.co.uk.

Thank you.

That's fine.

I just think it ought to be made clearer in the terms of service that it's at the discretion of the committe as to what action could be taken.  At the moment you only sign up to say you won't post such stuff and there's no indication of what could heppen if you do.

You only see the t.o.s once when you register and I don't know if they are the ones that were on the registration page when I registered.  Hence I think they should be reinforced by having a permanent link to them somewhere - say next to the help button.

It's not my intention to start a discussion on posting of porn just that the t.o.s could be tightened up and be more accessible so there can be no excuses for serious breaches.

Just a suggestion.

Well said Harv :t-up:

well i am worried that the government might ban porn ,and going cold turkey is never the best way to come off something   :p

but seriously I think people make kids grow up far to fast , kids should go out during the school hols and  cycle miles and play in the woods and only come home for tea .

But alas our society has changed .

Out of interest chairman can i ask how many complaints you had when there was that thread about someones girlfrend getting votes for her to recieve free accomodation at uni for a year ? she was naked except for wscc stickers , is that ok ?   :D  :D  :D

Creeping standards are a common problem. A large number of infinitessimal steps seem to pass un-noticed but the result is still a descent into unwanted salaciousness.  I am as un-offended as anyone by porn or "adult" subjects, etc. But everything has its place and we really don't know who reads our posts and there has been a modicum of bad taste creeping in of late, IMHO.

I'm with Harv but I don't believe that HMG will ban porn; it's the neo-opiate of the people and keeps the collective mind off what's really going on. :p

I'm not saying it wasn't.

Just everyone's ideas of "malicious or offending articles" are different, some people might be offended by something where as someone else may think it is fine.

It's just like porn, people like different things and have different tastes, that is why there is so much of a variety.

But this isn't a porn site, which is surely the point...

Sorry, I was trying to use the wide variety of porn example as a way of describing how everyone has different levels of acceptance to "malicious or offending" content.

If everyone had the same tastes/feelings then nobody would have complained. As it turns out some people though it was fine others didn't. This shows clearly that it is difficult to judge what is "malicious or offending". But so far I think that the WSCC and its members have got it right.

Thanks

Dan
