adhawkins Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Hi all, Well, despite: 1. A week spent swapping steering racks before eventually putting the old one back on (thanks Dickie) 2. A wasted Friday morning thanks to Hurricane Gently 3. Finding out 30 mins before we were supposed to leave that one of my race tyres was flat 4. Turning up at the track on Saturday to find my car 'missing' 5. Running the Welsh Wizard over with the (empty) trailer 6. Spending two hours driving around Lichfield trying to get my silencer welded so that it didn't fall off. 7. A broken half shaft on my last run on the Saturday. I hope someone has got 'that' picture 8. A swarm of SS guys descending on my car Sunday morning to fit a new drive shaft (thanks Keith Adams for supplying it! ) 9. Inventing a new way of getting off the line on my final timed run (1st, 2nd, fifth...ah). 10. A blown head gasket on that final run 11. A return trip to Fradley on Monday morning to pick up the laptop we left in the hotel myself and the Welsh Wizard had a top time at my first ever competitive event. I got gradually quicker throughout the day, knocking something like 1.5 seconds off my first practice time by my second timed run. Was really looking forward to my final run to see if I could get down to my 'target' time (JWTs time from last year). As it happened I ended up 0.4 seconds off it, so JWTs honour is still intact Thanks to: Luned (for putting up with all the trials and tribulations) Si Houghton (for doing all the bits I would have cocked up, and making sure I wasn't stressed) Carla Sandham (for witty pit board comments) Wotbox and Mike Allard (for fabricating a replacement half shaft on Saturday evening) Keith Adams (for supplying a replacement half shaft) Barney, Rob Navin, Derek Hodder, Rob Marshall, John Fisher and countless others (apologies to anyone who's name I have missed out) who really showed what this club was all about as they worked what appeared to me to be miracles in getting my car back on the road. I must admit I was all for putting the car on the trailer on Saturday evening and leaving it there, but the crowd of people that descended on the car Saturday evening and Sunday morning really showed the true spirit of this club. Oh, and to cap it all, I got my very own 'Stressed Eric' award So, let's hope that's all my bad luck out of the way for the rest of the season. Roll on Llandow Andy Quote
studbuckle Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I hope someone has got 'that' picture Do you mean 'this' one?? Quote
Frau Vesty Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Oh, and to cap it all, I got my very own 'Stressed Eric' award Does it look anything like Terry's trophy Quote

adhawkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 Do you mean 'this' one?? That's the one At least: 1. It was a real failure 2. I was the one doing the pushing Andy Quote
Bananaman Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 10. A blown head gasket on that final run Andy Glad it wasn't a valve that went, HG sounds a little easyer (less expensive) to sort. P.S. Is there no pic's of it looking like a steamtrain Quote
chrisbin Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Well done Andy! Sounds like..........................fun.... When's Llandow? Quote
studbuckle Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 I should add that despite: 1) The steering rack problem being nothing more than a bit of play emphasised greatly by two bolts on the bottom ball joint not being tight. (Fixed in 5 mins) 2) Wheel nuts being air-gunned on by rent-a-tyre-fitter causing much sweat and grunting from yours truly 3) Andy running over his wife and then expecting us not to laugh about it. 4) Riding around lichfield in an aeroscreened car trying to eat a sandwich 5) Getting to the circuit on Sunday to find the 'swarm' of SS guys working on the driveshaft (honest we didn't plan to be that late) 6) Burning my fingers on boiling water coming out of no2 cylinder after HGF. 7) Having to TWICE load the purple throbber onto the trailer by hand 8) Realising that being pit monkey means Carla has the cameras most of the day, so, sorry to everyone she's caught, must remove long lens next time (pics to follow but a problem with my web hosting LOL means I'l have to do them tonight). yes, despite all that, we had a cracking weekend. Thanks to all the SS drivers and crew for not only helping out but not taking the mik toooo much when we broke Yet another thing I also realised that despite a boot full of tools I almost always NEVER had the right thing BUT a loan was never far away, Thanks. Team Gently Hosting will return (must be bleeding mental) Quote
Mark Stanton Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 (must be bleeding mental) Yep Don't forget that the SS guys also looked at Friday nights rainy weather forecast and decided to put the purple throbber under cover in the marquee thoughtfulness or what Quote
neilwillis Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Shame the Eezi-up blew away and mine got wet! Especially after I helped push Andy's under cover Quote
adhawkins Posted June 27, 2005 Author Posted June 27, 2005 And all with no steering wheel too...very impressive Andy Quote
DickieB Posted June 27, 2005 Posted June 27, 2005 Thanks to: Luned (for putting up with all the trials and tribulations) Si Houghton (for doing all the bits I would have cocked up, and making sure I wasn't stressed) Carla Sandham (for witty pit board comments) Wotbox and Mike Allard (for fabricating a replacement half shaft on Saturday evening) Keith Adams (for supplying a replacement half shaft) Barney, Rob Navin, Derek Hodder, Rob Marshall, John Fisher and countless others (apologies to anyone who's name I have missed out) who really showed what this club was all about as they worked what appeared to me to be miracles in getting my car back on the road.
