Hi,

Coming near the end of my build and looking ahead to the SVA. How long (on average) is it from requesting to an actual date, for the test. Wanting to go to Watnall Notts.

Thanks

It was about 2 weeks for me up in Manchester. Depends on the number of cars they've got coming through I suppose. This time of year must get really busy

They say up to 12 weeks, so get the application in early, you can always postpone the test date if you're not ready.   Once you're in direct contact with the testing station, all the beurocracy is out of the window, and easy to arrange.   It's getting to that stage that takes forever.

When I initially rang Watnall in February I think it was, they said they could do one "tomorrow" so I applied and when the rang me up to fix a date I made one about 4/6 weeks hence. You could call them, ask for Martin or Andy and see what the leadtime is.

PS Good luck, they seem very fair there IMO

Top blokes at Watnall, knowledgable, sensible and fair - they don't miss a thing mind, so no p***-taking!.....I drove 90 miles to take my car there and glad I did. Some of the nit-picking I've read about from other stations would have failed mine. Andy let me sort out the few minor issues on the day. He also explained that the station policy is set by the manager. Some stations like lots of re-tests, some don't. Some allow 1 hour for the test, some allow 4. Watnall is in the latter category on both these things. Enlightened.

I'm not casting aspersions here, but do try and present a well-put together car - it'll help. Expect a hard time if you take a Pilgim Sumo......

I rang them before sending in the paperwork to Swansea and it was a 1 week waiting list. I put date 4 weeks ahead of when I sent the forms in and got the date I wanted no bother, even allowing for a problem with my chassis number that delayed things about a week.

Once the paperwork is through Swansea and passed to the test station, they ring you direct and you confirm with them. Martin & Andy at Watnall are really flexible and helpful about dates - if you let them know in advance, you can change it no bother.

If you've got one, take your build photo album along, although they know the Westfield pretty well by now I think. My own car was the first one of it's type they had seen, so Andy was more thorough in some areas than they will be with a Westy.

Apparently, the Nottingham DVLA are very good as well, so you might be able to do a one-day flyer and get it all done if you go for a morning test.

Good luck!
