which clutch???

??? I have oil leaking from my rear crank oil seal, which is causing clutch slip, (i think!;). The car has covered a small mileage since being built, and is supposed to be fitted with an AP racing clutch. I am planning to change the clutch myself but have the problem of having to complete the job in a day, as i have n garage facility. I cannot decide if it is worth while keeping with the AP clutch and buying a new plate and bearing, or to buy a new clutch kit, something like a ferodo or maxtorq? Price is an issue as i cannot afford  to buy a complete ap clutch kit. The engine is crossflow 1700 with type 9 gearbox and max power expected about 150bhp. If the car is lighter than say an escort then would a less substantial clutch not be sufficient?

I would very much like to hear what options the rest of you have taken when replacing clutches and how they fair!

A heavy duty plate will be fine assuming you have a standard road type clutch cover. FWIW, I was running 235bhp through a standard Pinto road cover and an AP heavy duty Pinto clutch plate which was supplied by Burtons.

If you have a 7.25" clutch, plates will still be cheap-ish, although if you have a twin plate clutch, you'll need two...
