stu999 Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Unfortunately it is looking like BlatChat may turn into a 'If you aint a paid up member-you aint coming in' forum. Here. Warning: Long thread... And watch out for flying toys. Interesting comments by Vinnie, which seem to be largly ignored........ Quote
Adrian Elkin Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Just about to go to bed as I reached page 5 and lost the will to live. I agree with you that Vinnie's comments are very interesting and took them onboard. I have to confess that I am as yet undecided on the issue as I can see substance in the detail of both arguments. I'd be interested to hear everybodies constructive obervations about our (the L7CGB's Managements Teams) current predicament. The "flying toys" makes listening difficult at times over on the "dark side!" (Liked that one ) Should be an interesting topic to follow for you guys. What does get my goat are the personal attacks on the 'team,' of which I'm a member I'm afraid, and those members that don't "conform" to certain individuals (plural) expectations, whatever they are. A case in point in Noger's view of 'moi'... [sIGH!]I just can't win sometimes! Peace brothers Adrian Elkin (SEi owner, 11 years and counting) Quote
Nick M Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Single Make Forums - all the same, and they all get boring after a while. Yes, even this one.... If Blatchat goes members only then it will be a sparkling advert for potential new members.... I know we take the mickey about new people here and getting them to join the club, but that's largely because this forum isn't such a big part of the WSCC, IMHO. Useful, entertaining and informative certainly, but it can't be considered to "be" the WSCC in the same way that perhaps Blatchat could be considered as the main face of the Lotus Seven Club of GB. Adrian Elkin Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 I agree with your comments Nick. Especially the point: ...this forum isn't such a big part of the WSCC, IMHO. Useful, entertaining and informative certainly, but it can't be considered to "be" the WSCC in the same way that perhaps Blatchat could be considered as the main face of the Lotus Seven Club of GB.I dread to think what those not already members of the club think of the L7C now! Better to come along to my area meet and talk face to face and see what things are really about. "Quality Replicas" are all welcome! Having had a kip and thought about things a bit more, I really wouldn't bother looking at Blatchat for the time being. It's probably not worth it. All the best Adrian Quote
Blatman Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Hiya Adrian Nick'S in Arizona......... I really wouldn't bother looking at Blatchat for the time being. It's probably not worth it. Agreed. I all but gave up about a year ago, 'cos it seemed the general mood was changing. It doesn't seem that the mood is going to improve on it's own, and it also doesn't seem like "management intervention" is going to help either. Faced as they are, with a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, I'm not surprised that they've taken the decision that they have (oh, I haven't got beyond page 1 of the thread yet but I will be doing......). I am surprised that they are going to take what seems to be 4-6 months to implement it, though, but I guess Barry is busy enough.............. And as Nick says, it's practically a racing certainty that the WSCC site will go the same way eventually. Perhaps that's when I'll buy a Porsche....... Quote
Fat Albert Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 I've read the thread and am concerned (and then only slightly) the attitude might spread here. Uncensored discussion forums with disclaimers regarding personal responsbility are not held responsible for defamatory content, only for their reaction to it in a timely manner. I agree that there appears to be an increasing undercurrent on BlatChat that doesn't smell very nice. PS Snotty, won't you have to give BlatGirl the keys to the Porsche Quote
Blatman Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 I agree that there appears to be an increasing undercurrent on BlatChat that doesn't smell very nice. Not sure about any "undercurrent", myself, so I'd be interested in what exactly you mean by that, for the sake of discussion For me, it just seems that threads all to quickly degenerate in what reads as an argument. It's the perennial problem with the written word failing to convey "emotion" very well, which is why I gave up.........too much gets mis-interpreted, and then the defences start going up........ I am surprised that they are going to take what seems to be 4-6 months to implement it, though, but I guess Barry is busy enough.............. I had a think about that too. I think I've got the wrong end of the stick, so ignore that, all you Blatchat lurkers, 'cos I realise that it isn't as simple as all that. Got to page 3......... Quote
stu999 Posted November 17, 2003 Author Posted November 17, 2003 And it begs the question: Does making the forum 'Members Only' (and charging for the service) reduce the risks to the club concerned-or increase them? And how far could this potentially go? For example, could the club concerned find themselves in court if an accident occured because some 'dodgy' technical advise was followed that came from the boardroom? For me, it just seems that threads all to quickly degenerate in what reads as an argument. It's the perennial problem with the written word failing to convey "emotion" very well, which is why I gave up.........too much gets mis-interpreted, and then the defences start going up........ Blatters, you are right, it happens on this boardroom too. But less so, and when it does, most threads end up with apologies and group hugs.... But I have to also agree with Fat Albert, there seem to be more folk than ever 'over there' that go in 'guns blazing'-and it certainly isnt discussion no matter what tone of voice you choose to read the thread-the frequent personal insults see to that. Perhaps SteveD should spend a few days on the 'Dark Side'. That should sort it out..... Quote

Fat Albert Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 Not sure about any "undercurrent", myself, so I'd be interested in what exactly you mean by that, for the sake of discussion Even in this particular thread there is a 'them' and 'us' feeling expressed and IMO, the charge a fee, Caterham owners can afford it attitude doesn't sit too well with advice freely given even if frequently ignored. Also both the posts by V7SLR and the responses were just unpleasant, no humour to lift the tone and out of character compared to his contribution here. I could have said smell rather than undercurrent, then decay might have come to mind. Quote
Buzzer Posted November 17, 2003 Posted November 17, 2003 And it begs the question: Does making the forum 'Members Only' (and charging for the service) reduce the risks to the club concerned-or increase them? this is one to ponder.. I suppose making to members only will reduce the chances of being caught. as you will have to be a member to find out anything. But cos it's a "closed" forum, potentially there is more onus on those running the forum it keeping it correct. Anyhow hope we don't go that way. Being open does IMHO make it 1,000% better than a close forum. This forum IMHO again has a wealth of information available to it because it is open. And I take it for granted!! And it goes without saying IMHO it is the best one on the Web! Dave Quote
