markg Posted November 13, 2003 Posted November 13, 2003 they look like second hand wheels badly refinished! Quote
david.c Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 they look like second hand wheels badly refinished! That's what I was about to say. Looks like the apprentice had the job of giving them a spruce up David Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Looks like you've got some seconds, probably at a discounted price? Remember that Compomotive stuff is mainly for rallying. Their wheels are designed to get you out of a stage without a tyre so I would imagine that their quality of the powder coated finish inside the rim is not too much of a concern to most people buying their products. I'd imagine therefore they'd let most things go out damaged at a discount rather than scrap them. If you've paid the full price for your wheels I'd negotiate some money off then keep em. Total b*****k Windy ref the " I would imagine that their quality of the powder coated finish inside the rim is not too much of a concern to most people buying their products. I'd imagine therefore they'd let most things go out damaged at a discount rather than scrap them" I've bought a lot of sets of wheels from compomotive for my Mk2 Escort & Manta 400 when I was competing in the BTRDA in the 90's and all were quality, plus you don't want any area where ther is potential of the powder coat been thin on raised imperfections where specks of loose ali has been trapped in the powder coating process..... for obvious reasons as per Gregs wheels never mind the traped air bubbles!. Its very poor procedure if you think out of site, out of mind. PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING I can't imagine Compomotive saying "yeah send it out we'll knock a tenna off" per wheel. One of the big concerns for any global company is 'Quality of product' & QC followed by customer service. There's too many competitors out their ready to say "Yeah the're not bad wheels but the quality of the finish is poor" etc, etc. Greg get theses changed as you WILL have problems further down the road with corrosion believe me I've seen it before. My latest compo 5 spokes on the V8 saw some major action over the last 3 years so I got them re- powder coated last year and look in better condition than Greg's new ones. Good luck mate, hopefully you'll have things in hand by now C U saturday Buzz Quote

I paid full whack for these, they ain't discounted 2nds. Quote

will maskell Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 I would tend to agree with windys views that they may be seconds!! it does happen, look at midland wheel supplies and there minilite copies! they even state that they are seconds but sell at the right price! But saying that if you have paid top dollar then they are taking the p***,I also was looking at buying these alloys but may look else where now, really ****e finish. let us all know how you get on will Quote
gregh Posted November 14, 2003 Author Posted November 14, 2003 just got a call back from Steve at Polleys, Compo are going to send me a new set of wheels in 2 weeks when they get stock. fingers crossed! Greg Quote
windy Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Compo are going to send me a new set of wheels in 2 weeks when they get stock. There you go - they are obviously well into their supply of their pile of 2nd's - having run out of "nice" stock How about some ML's. Rally & competition equipment have 180 of them on the shelf. £100 each inc vat for 8x13's. Quote
Arm Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 Windy Your engine seems to be burning a bit of oil ! Have you knackered it trying to keep up with Smiffy ? Quote
windy Posted November 16, 2003 Posted November 16, 2003 No its Smiffy's sheep droppings burning on the exhaust!!!! Quote
steve_m Posted March 11, 2004 Posted March 11, 2004 Greg, were the second set OK ? Looks like some of the comments regarding low stock/seconds is true as mine were even worse than yours, some parts of the wheel didn' even have paint on them. Quote
