Impney Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 I do! You missed out John Cleland taking them on in an Astra. Got the tapes somewhere in the house. The XR4Ti was that any relation to the Merkur? Quote
7SE Posted March 23, 2005 Posted March 23, 2005 Yep I remember the days of Rover V8's, Jag XJS's, Volvo 240T's and the Sierra XR4Ti. I thought that it was a US inline 4 engine :/ from the Merkur Quote
Steve L Posted March 24, 2005 Author Posted March 24, 2005 Thank you all for the useful information. The U-joints on my drive shaft are attached with circlips, so I guess that means one problem less for me. As to the spacer, does anyone have an idea what Caterham wants for the part? Does Westfield also offer such a part? I will be collecting the gearbox and the bell housing on April 2 in Spa. (Seven Mania club race, in case anyone is interested in attending as viewer or racer.) I had originally planned to do the gearbox swap in the fall, after the season and had just begun to gather information, but then two people who had parts lying about contacted me. Maybe I will do it this summer. Thanks again for the help. I hope you all have a sunny summer! Steve Quote
Martin Keene Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Who remembers Andy Rouse, Guy Edwards, Tony Soper, Rob Gravett, Tim Harvey et al doing battle in those baby's. Indeedy... So them at the British Grand Prix. Awesome things to behold. Somebody should invent a Thorughbred Touring Car Championship so we can bring them back. Quote

I don't know the answers but, IMHO you are better off shortening the shaft. Its going to be cheaper, if you can't do it yourself then I'm sure that someone at the Spa w/end can, or knows someone who can. Not using the spacer allows the engine to sit 25mm further back than it would otherwise have to. This will improve weight distribution. Quote
Blatman Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Thorughbred Touring Car Championship so we can bring them back. That'll be Thundersaloons (Thunderloons we call 'em). Look out for them at a circuit near you... Quote
