leighc
DO you have to have fog and reverse lights on your car to pass MOT? I can recall seeing cars without them, and mine are knackered and think it would tidy up the back end if i didnt have them as i'm taking off my rear wheel. Your advice is greatly appreciated
cidersurfer
Reverse light isn't on the test, I don't have one but I think fog is, I do have one of those. I'm sure someone will be along in a mo to confirm...
perksy
Think IF the Fog's fitted it's Supposed to work They Tested Mine Anyway
cidersurfer
Just did a bit of Googling and apparently fog lights must be fitted to all vehicles first used on or after 1st April 1980.
davidgh
Agree. Fog is necessary for all 'modern' cars. Reverse is entirely optional. Applies to both MOT and SVA. David
7SE
Yes but if your car has a Q plate then different rules apply. Do a search and you will find threads with links to the MOT guide etc
leighc
yes, i thought that if your car was a "q" the age was unproveable and therefore different MOT rules applied? I'll have a look on the website, thanks for all your help guys.
perksy
Leigh Take your Westy to a Garage that knows the rules regarding Q plated cars. Some MOT places think that all cars are 'the same' when it comes to MOT's.
S8ight
manual
cidersurfer
Nicw one Seight, that's gone into 'Favourites'! Extract from Manual follows... A vehicle's 'first used' date is; a. Its date of manufacture, if the vehicle was originally used . without being registered in GB [e.g., an imported vehicle or ex-HM Forces vehicle), or b. Vehicles having a Q plate registration when presented for MOT are to be treated as follows: For emission purposes only, all these types are to be considered as vehicles first used before 1st August 1975. For all other testing purposes they are to be considered as being first used on 1 st January 1971,or c. In any other case, the earlier of either . Its date of first registration, or .The date six months after it was manufactured. So it sounds like 7SE is right and you don't need the fog lamp based on item b outlined above, but still a possible education area for your tester if they try to apply 'normal' rules. TAFFYY
Hi If it is a Q plate you do not need either or side indicator repeaters. That is from an MOT centre, hope this helps

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
they wont be going back on then. Do you also need to lose the fog lamp switch if you go down this route?
leighc
they wont be going back on then. Do you also need to lose the fog lamp switch if you go down this route? On the dash? I'm in the process of replacing it anyway so its not a problem.
