ChrisF Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 I may be fitting a Vx but I loved my cvh HTH Quote
pistonbroke Posted March 11, 2005 Posted March 11, 2005 Welcome aboard ! I will check it out though, I don't think i'll be going very far if it snaps.... any thoughts on oil? If the cam belt snaps you probably be going all the way to the scrap yard with a mangled CVH A hanes manual might come in handy ! Quote
sdawes Posted March 11, 2005 Author Posted March 11, 2005 Thanks for the warm welcome Bernie. Quite right about the cam - don't want that going... I have haynes on cvh and sierra for running gear - I can see myself becoming familiar with them very soon. Chris - pleased to hear that you enjoyed your CVH. What started the desire to upgrade to VX? Did you have a blat in one and couldn't resist the extra umph? On an entirely different note - I just donated to comic relief...feel good for it! Quote
ChrisF Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 What started the desire to upgrade to VX? My cvh had 136 bhp was 100% reliable and great fun....but my problem is power..I find the limit and get fustrated, then I need more (it's is common ailment around here ) I always liked the Xe and it is a good starting base for as much power as your pockets can stand Quote
Martin Keene Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Chris's problem is his pockets won't stand what he wants... Quote
CrashBangWallop Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Just ran my CVH for the last time this morning I'm busy labelling and removing pipework and wiring galore Sad to see it go but, it's bigger brother is sitting next it, in the garage... another CVH with a fat T3 turbo Sorry, I can't help but, it was my first Westie. I love every minute of it. That may change in the next few weeks, though Quote
ChrisF Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Martin..you know what they say about men with small pockets...they got big imaginations Quote
cidersurfer Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 Chris's problem is his pockets won't stand what he wants... That's this Chris's problem too Quote
markcoopers Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 Chris's car went better with the CVH though, as he hasn't overcome the tricky enginering issue of getting power to rear wheels with the engine on the guarage floor Would recommend; Oil and filter change Air filter clean Flush cooling and fit with summer antifreeze (might want to wiat a few weeks yet) Timming belt change Re-grease battery terminals, and all grease nipples. Check dif oil level and box if you think it worthwhile. Check break fluid levels and pads. Check all lights work Basiclly a good visual check to make sure no fluids are dropping out and the hoses are all OK. Good luck, Mark Quote
sdawes Posted March 14, 2005 Author Posted March 14, 2005 Thanks Mark - more great input! I managed to speak with the former owner on the weekend and he suggested the same points you have. On another note, I had time this weekend to take the Westy for a blat, ooh that smile ! - I'm tempted to leave my misses and go sleep in the garage...: Quote
pistonbroke Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 - I'm tempted to leave my misses and go sleep in the garage...: Familiar symptoms of westyitus setting in As yet there is no known cure although a good blat is known to offer temporary relief Quote
slippy Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 Mark you mentioned flushing the radiator fluid how is this done ? Quote
pistonbroke2 Posted July 11, 2005 Posted July 11, 2005 Just pull the chain. If its an oldish motor and the water in the Rad is mucky then get some Rad flushing fluid and drop that through the watereworks. just follow the nstructions on the lid. Welcome to the 8 valve club. Just remember Eights company Sixteens a crowd Quote
