Leon B Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Took the day off work on monday to trailer the Westy upto Essex to get Steve Greenald at Race Engine Calibrations to work his magic on the map. Got there at 10am after a 3 hour drive and work got under way around 11, after we had a cuppa and a chat. Was really impressed what Steve had done with the engine last time so went back to him. The previous engine made 184bhp / 153lfbt torque, standard 20XE with Jenvey 45tb's. This time the engine had Omega deep pocket forged pistons (think these change the compression ratio), SBD 4-2-1 manifold and ti can, lightened and balanced bottom end and Kent ast1603 (278 duration 11.6mm lift) cams. The mapping lasted a good 5 hours but the end result was well worth waiting for. Engine made: 213.7bhp @ 7373 173.7lbft @ 5582 Speed in 5th @ 7373 rpm - 161mph The power just kept rising but unfortunately my VX cream injectors got to their max duty cycle. Now having driven the car it is totally transformed, love it Just need some sticky tyres to put the power down. More pics here..... Quote
mud Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 well done that man ! now please try and keep it in one piece so all of us can have some peace p.s. love the colour of the exhaust Quote
thos Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 So is there still more in it if you swap the injectors ? Quote
mark.anson Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Nice one Leon, What are their rates for a days mapping? Id have like to have seen the look on your face when you saw the colour of that exhaust. I bit of an twicher me thinks! Quote
Leon B Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Thos, more power if i swap injectors but also steel rods would be needed to rev just that bit more. Mark, I was absolutely bricking myself, when they hold the engine up at 6k for a couple of mins you have this mad panic attack that you forgot to tighten up a nut or bolt in the engine somewhere. Days mapping costs around £350, def worth going to Steve, really knows his stuff and recently had new rollers installed that cost an absolute fortune, nice bit of kit Quote
Bananaman Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 While I understand the Red & Blue lines, how come the Green line tails of @ 164bhp @ 5750rpm & Wot's the Purple line Quote
Leon B Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 I think the Green line is power at the wheels, but the rollers are setup to calculate power at the fly so that figure is a load of After they've done the power run the computer does some calculations and porduces the graph as seen, if i wanted power at the wheels it does a different calc. Think my diff needs changing!! 161mph, dont think i'll be reaching that somehow. Quote
pete g Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 when me car is back together i think i will be taking a visit to mr greenald. Quote
cidersurfer Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Nice work Leon Purple line is Air:Fuel Ratio. For power it needs to be around 12.8:1 at wide open throttle and it looks like it is. Quote
Leon B Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Yep thats the one Chris, air/fuel ratio, they have a wideband on the exhaust to monitor this constantly during the mapping. Cant wait to get it on track now.. Quote
Leon B Posted March 9, 2005 Author Posted March 9, 2005 Yep he does the lot, Emerald. MBE and DTA.... not a big fan of megasquirts though Quote
