CrashBangWallop
Even with the best intentions in the world something always puts a spanner in the works Westfield say they modify/machine the CVH flywheel to fit the type 9 gearbox. Although my current CVH flywheel will fit onto the RST engine it WON'T have the markings for the Crank position sensor to read. Therefore... Does a 1.8 or 2.0 zetec flywheel fit a CVH crank? Where did all those RSTurbo Westfield owners vanish to, eh? Boo hoo Neil
CedricTheBrave
Silly question maybe but why won't it have the timing markings ? it would be quite easy for you to find TDC and mark it yourself! or not ?
scruffythefirst
Does the crank position sensor run off the crank pulley at the other end of the engine?
thos
I had a CVH flywheel on my 1.8 Zetec with MT75 box - not sure if that helps in anyway !! So the reverse should be true ? It had the standard Zetec crank position sensor.
westy666
I think you can get a purpose made solid disc to fit to the back of the flywheel with a 'notch' in for the cps pick up. Im sure i read it in the gumpf that came with my Emerald ECU so would have thought other manufacturers would do something similar.
CrashBangWallop
Suppose, I'll have to wait until the engine comes out and I can have a look. Mark, at Westfield, didn't know if it would have the markings or not. I thought it would have (if the engine came from an Escort XR3i or Fiesta XR2i) the holes for the EFi and ECU it used to run Does the crank position sensor run off the crank pulley at the other end of the engine? Definitely runs off the reverse side of the flywheel. Neil

markcoopers
Sorry to hear about your wowes mate, but once I've finished making a mess of mine i'll be volunteering to come and mess with yours..... Engine everyone, engine.
CrashBangWallop
I think I've tried Ferriday before with this question. He said he only deals with the insides of engines. He's probably seen a few CVH flywheels in his time, though. I'll try him again, just in case. Mark... I know you're trying to keep things 'hush-hush' but, have you removed your engine? Maybe, you could have a poke around your flywheel while it's out. Way-hey! Cheers, people, Neil
CrashBangWallop
Can anyone confirm PM please, so as to not highjack this thread Yeah ! Heh heh Neil
mattf
The 1.6 CVH was fitted to the Sierra's after 1990-ish and used a type 9 gearbox. Perhaps you could get one of these flywheels which will have the correct markings on it.
CrashBangWallop
The RST engine was fitted between '88-'92. I have a K reg. '92 engine. IIRC, my CVH is an '84 engine. Do you think this is why Westfield had to machine it and that the RST one will fit straight on? Please let it be so. Thanks, Neil
markcoopers
Neil, my engine is already in Martins H's car, so sorry can not have a look at it. Not sure what else to say? MArk
scruffythefirst
Why not get westfield to modify the RST flywheel to fit? Alternatively have the correct pattern machined into your CVH flywheel for the CPS. There are people who run cossie management on a RST - it'd be expensive but maybe they could point you in the correct direction to solve your particular problem. I may have been going round in circles here, and suggested soemthing you've already thought of, but I've forgotten whats gone before
CrashBangWallop
After talking to Ferriday (Sorry ,didn't get the guy's name.) He reckons that Westfield have put in new threads so, the flywheel will take the Escort Mk2 clutch kit. The Flywheel itself will not have changed diameter. 'Engine out' should be next weekend, hopefully. I'll find out then
