Bob Green Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I was thinking of getting a SatNav toy for the Audi and people have told me Tom Tom Go is the one to have. Before I depart with £450, I would welcome comments from people who have used one, along with the pro's and cons. Thanks Quote
adhawkins Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I've got a Garmin Quest. Same sort of price range, but this is waterproof, so I can use it in the Westfield. Andy Quote
gee_fin Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Tom Tom Go impressed the hell out of me. Very good product. Excellent navigation, very powerful, full database etc. etc. Only downside is it is NOT good for speed cameras. You download the POI file from pocketgps which is not well maintained and/or accurate. For navigation you cannot fault the product (also has a traffic warning add-on which sounds good), but I would not rely on it for speed cameras. Quote
gee_fin Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Oh, and you don't necessarily need to buy the Tom Tom Go. You can get it for your phone and/or iPaq (exactly the same software, just need to buy a GPS receiver) which may end up cheaper/more suited. Quote
DutchWestfield Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 TomTom mobile is 250 EURO over here. Only thing you will need to go with that is a Symbian S60 phone, like the Nokia 6600 or 7610. Works very well, includingn speed camera warning etc. TomTom mobile comes with a bleutooth GPS reciever and a memory card where the maps are stored on. I copied the data to a bigger (256 Mb) memory card. On this bigger card I couold store the map with the "major roads of europe" too !! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 I use Tom Tom navigator thro a PDA with Bluetooth GPS hook-up - I find it extremely helpful and very accurate Quote
steppenwolf Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Call me old fashioned (or even old if you like) but I really couldn't part with £450 for a product called 'Tom Tom' ....... Now Garmin, that is good stuff - my GPS45 is still going strong after 9 years Quote
mad lon Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 Personally,I use a HQ.......Homing Quail (sorry Bob) Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 8, 2005 Posted January 8, 2005 This site is quite useful for Satnav and Tom Tom info etc Sat Nav Forum Quote
scott beeland Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Still use a map myself. Get lost loadsa times....But then you usually find your best blatting roads when your lost Quote
Enterpryse Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Only downside is it is NOT good for speed cameras. You download the POI file from pocketgps I use the PPC version and have no complaints, like Mark. I'm glad you mention it though coz my father wants a "GO" and I was trying to find out whether the Gatso DB overlays could be installed. ....thought they were cheaper than 450 notes though, more like 350 Quote
Enterpryse Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 ......Does anyone know how to tell TT3 to ALWAYS use the shortest route, when using recent places or favourites??? Sri for the quick digression Quote
Mark Stanton Posted January 9, 2005 Posted January 9, 2005 Stuart Have a look through the forum I posted above - its full of info and really helpful Quote
