Westfieldman Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 And what's in my sprint car An old pinto from a rotting old Sierra I do belive Quote
westy Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Good on Westfield for releasing this. Pricey but thats how much they cost to build... Blatters, have you caught up with the age of your engine yet Quote
James Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Im pleased Westfield have done this if nothing more than to prove that they are as good as Caterham and NOT the underdog, I think maybe they have relised there full potential and it sounds like they have paid alot of attention to detail and thats were it counts. Al Yupright Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Would you buy one over a Caterham CSR? Quote
neilwillis Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Blatters, the chassis on the new release is also different, it has wide track suspension, a roll cage, all sorts of things. I don't think it'll just be an SEiW with a Duratec in it, so taking a trip to Autosport wouldn't be wasted IMHO. Or is it the dread of that round of drinks that concerns you still? Quote
westy Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 test drive at a circuit back to back would make me decide...not on these list 1b thingys though This assumes they have made a perfect job of both cars of course! Quote
neilwillis Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 The fact that the new offering from Westfield has such a fine pedigree, being directly descended from an SEiW wouldn't sway you then Westy? It will be the only one of the two entitled to wear the coveted Westfield Rising Sun after all! Quote

Matt Seabrook Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Good on Westfield I am with Blatman on dropping the SDV though. One of the reasons I got my Westfield in the first place was because they are one of if not the best 7 type cars around and there was no watering down of the product and cheapening it too much. Just seemed like a good value kit my heart sank a bit when the SDV came out as it seemed to me that Westfield had sold out a bit and was entering in to the budget market. Unlike Blatters though I will be looking forward to seeing the new car. Quote
Blatman Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 Er, I am looking forward to seing it, I just won't be rushing up to Brum to pay for the privelige... Neil. If I read the presser right, it comes with a roll bar made by caged, the same peole who make the cage that is available as a cost option... Roll bar. The roll bar is made by specialists 'Caged', and is manufactured from PTG700, the same high tensile, light material as used in the new lightweight FIA homologated race cage. CNC bent over mandrel and jig built for accuracy this roll bar adds safety, not weight to the new model. So, not a cage then... I'd like to see just how different the actual chassis is from a normal SEiW. I suspect that apart from the engine and gearbox mounts, the tube layout etc etc is substantially the same. Detail changes are to be expected, but I'll bet a penny to a pound it's NOT a new chassis from the ground up. And that's NOT a criticism... Quote
Stevo Posted January 7, 2005 Posted January 7, 2005 With so many new SDV builders on the site should you really be degrading the model? It is after all virtually identical to the SEIW. Quote

I did not mead to degrade their choice just stating my opinion. I have had derogatory comments about my own car and its water off a ducks back really. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Also I thought my comments had been aimed more at Wesfield than the people that build them Quote
