Chester
Hi, Does anyone know how to remove the steering wheel on a 2000 Ford Fiesta that has a drivers air bag fitted? The steering wheel is offset and the other half would like it putting back on straight. Cheers Mark

7SE
[lateral thinking] Adjust the tracking with the steering wheel set straight [/lateral thinking]
7SE
just get the tracking done. Sorry, for some reason I didn't see that
Chester
That's what has caused the problem in the first place. The tracking was done but now the wheel is offset. Mark
neilwillis
The people who adjusted the tracking didn't centre the steering wheel before they adjusted it. What it means is that the wheels and the steering wheel are no longer in synch. It isn't difficult to put right by getting the tracking re-adjusted with the wheel centred. Ian Podmore
Take it back to where it was adjusted and get them to do the job properly?
stu999
Yup cause if you take the steering wheel off, you will find that it isnt on a spline, but on a hexagonal shaft, so unless it's 60 deg out, it's a waste of time anyway. IMO take it back to the garage. it sounds like they've adjusted the one side only......
david.c
Take it back to where it was adjusted and get them to do the job properly? Seconded. Unless they offered to screw up your steering wheel alignment at no extra cost David
Nick A
take it back an get the track set correctly the steering wheel is not on splines as nornal but on a hexegon shaped shaft as already mentioned so if you get the wheel off you probably will still end up with the wheel out does sound like only one track rod has been adjusted
Bazzer
It also means that the bump steer on each wheel will be different. As the effective length of the steering arms will be different. Probably not as much of a problem on the wifes Fiesta as it would be on the Westie :-) Bazzer
