Building a go-kart

My 9 year old son wants to progress from his electric golf trolley powered go-kart (hand made) to one with an engine. (again hand made)

I was thinking of trying to get hold of an old moped and using the engine, gearbox, front and rear wheels and brakes from it. I did this when I was a kid with an old Honda C50 stepthru and it worked a treat :D

Where would be the best place to try and source such a donor?

My son is already sussing out which bike speedo and lights he wants to fit to it :0  :0  :0

Cheers

I used to have a "prokart" which used twin lawn mower engines. for a 9 y/o i think they use the single engines honda GX160 if i remember rightly.

the kart was chain driven to a solid rear axle, which also had a single caliper which was more than enough stopping power.

there is a massive website with aload of gokart for sale items, have a look on google for it.

found one website go-karts have a look on there for more ideas. if your son is wanting to race it your better off getting a popular engine so there will be classes and races available.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look.

The kart is just for fun  :D  :D not for any sort of racing.

Tha fun of building one and gradually improving it. Sounds like he is a budding Westie builder in years to come.
