Where (for the sake of argument) Snap-on, Facom are 10 and Rolson (from your sunday market) are 1. Some brands to rank include CK, Laser, Taskmaster, Halfords (Professional & not), Sykes Pickavant, Teng, Draper and any others people have used. Nick M Posted August 28, 2003 Share Posted August 28, 2003 I've been perfectly happy with all of my Halfords tools (professional and normal) (8/10) and I have a Teng torque wrench which is pretty damn good (8/10). The only Sykes Pickavant bits I have are odd-ball things like angle guages for torquing up head bolts, etc. but they are generally well made (7/10) Snap on are very good but I can't justify the US prices, let alone the UK ones !! Craftsman tools over here are very good but I don't think they're available in the UK are they ?? They're definitely on a par with Halfords IME. I've snapped the odd 3/8 extension bar swinging on it to undo a tight nut (should have got the 1/2 drive out but couldn't be bothered to walk to the tool chest! steppenwolf Posted August 28, 2003 Share Posted August 28, 2003 Mine are mainly Halfords Professional with some Sykes Pickavant (Imperial spanners and ball joint splitter) and I have found both to be very good. My only gripe is perhaps with the Halfords Professional flat blade screwdrivers as the blades seem to be very thick and many screws cannot be tightened with them as the blades won't fit! 9/10 only 'cos I HOPE that Snap-on are better at the prices they charge ..... Just had a quick look through my collection, Snap-On 10/10 on all their kit, screw drivers are a lot better than they used to be Blue Point 10/10 cheaper version of the Snap-on kit good for air tools Sykes 9/10 cheaper than Snap-on for the specialist tools Facom 9/10 as good as Snap-on Gedore 8/10 v good quality Halfords Professional 8/10 3/8 drive ratchet bit weak, their ratchet spanners are as good as the Snap-On ones CK 7/10 the older stuff seems better quality than what you can buy today Laser 6/10 Ok for sockets etc avoid their bigger stuff Clarke 6/10 (Machine Mart) Spanners are good hope this helps Darren Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have a few cheapo unbranded sockets that tend to split if used with great force. I also have some Machine Mart bits and pieces, which also seem quite good.
