How good do people reckon the various tool brands available in the UK are, on a scale of 1 to 10.  Where (for the sake of argument) Snap-on, Facom are 10 and Rolson (from your sunday market) are 1.

Some brands to rank include CK, Laser, Taskmaster, Halfords (Professional & not), Sykes Pickavant, Teng, Draper and any others people have used.

There may be some out there which rank 0   :0

I've been perfectly happy with all of my Halfords tools (professional and normal) (8/10) and I have a Teng torque wrench which is pretty damn good (8/10).  The only Sykes Pickavant bits I have are odd-ball things like angle guages for torquing up head bolts, etc. but they are generally well made (7/10)

Snap on are very good but I can't justify the US prices, let alone the UK ones !!  :0

Craftsman tools over here are very good but I don't think they're available in the UK are they ??  They're definitely on a par with Halfords IME.

I discovered a while ago that cheap tools are a false economy.

I can't fault the Halfrauds Pro tools that I have. I've snapped the odd 3/8 extension bar swinging on it to undo a tight nut (should have got the 1/2 drive out but couldn't be bothered to walk to the tool chest!;):D

I took these back to Halfrauds and they were exchanged no questions asked. Excellent value for the money.

Mine are mainly Halfords Professional with some Sykes Pickavant (Imperial spanners and ball joint splitter) and I have found both to be very good. My only gripe is perhaps with the Halfords Professional flat blade screwdrivers as the blades seem to be very thick and many screws cannot be tightened with them as the blades won't fit! 9/10 only 'cos I HOPE that Snap-on are better at the prices they charge .....

Halfords Professional is top kit in my opinion...

Nearly the same quality (70-80%) as the expensive boys - Facom, Snap On, etc

But only half the price, what more do you need  :D

I discovered a while ago that cheap tools are a false economy.

I'm with Nick on this one!

Just had a quick look through my collection,

Snap-On 10/10 on all their kit, screw drivers are a lot better than they used to be

Blue Point 10/10 cheaper version of the Snap-on kit good for air tools

Sykes 9/10 cheaper than Snap-on for the specialist tools

Facom 9/10 as good as Snap-on

Gedore 8/10 v good quality

Halfords Professional 8/10 3/8 drive ratchet bit weak, their ratchet spanners are as good as the Snap-On ones

CK 7/10 the older stuff seems better quality than what you can buy today

Laser 6/10 Ok for sockets etc avoid their bigger stuff

Clarke 6/10 (Machine Mart) Spanners are good

hope this helps

I have a SnapOn tool chest/cabinet which if full of Halfrauds professional range, i'd give the tools 9/10 just for quality and value.

Ive never had a tool break or anything faulty in several years of heavy use. Top Stuff for the money. :t-up:

Mine are mostly Draper and Elora which both seem OK. I have a few cheapo unbranded sockets that tend to split if used with great force.

I also have some Machine Mart bits and pieces, which also seem quite good.
