Im going to look at a VX 16v engine tomorrow with a view to buying it.Assuming I can date it, what are the emission rules for SVA.I dont want to end up buying a Cat come SVA time if the engine turns out to be too new.What year did the emmission rules come in? windy Posted August 20, 2003 Share Posted August 20, 2003 Look at the engine number stamped on the block, exhaust side near the gearbox end: C20XE or C20XEJ followed by the engine number denotes the engine originally had a catalyst ("C" is for catalyst). 20XE denotes the engine was without catalyst and is pre 1993 manufacture. Blatman Posted August 21, 2003 Share Posted August 21, 2003 However........ A C20XE up to 31st July 1995 can be properly SVA'd without a cat. The SVA inspectors are looking for proof that the engine was manufactured before that date, in order to conduct a "no cat" test.
