CrashBangWallop
I tried a search. Honest... I know I've seen this before. I think I remember that it wouldn't without some cutting (and subsequent welding) to the chassis. Something to do with the bell-housing. Which I have no intention of doing. A simple YES or NO would suffice. Any extra info would be a bargain (a link to the elusive thread, for example). Thanks, Neil
Turbo Tommo
Do you mind me asking why you want to do it?
peterg
NO not without some faffing about anyway
Mark Stanton
MT75 won't fit into a Type 9 chassis (without welding work) And as Tommo notes : Why
Blatman
No. And as others have said, it's not necessarilly an upgrade...
CrashBangWallop
Okay. I'll get laughed at again I was enquiring with on various sites about putting a RSTurbo in my car (can't afford a cossie) and a friend said that a type-9 couldn't take the sudden increase in torque a turbo would produce. I _KNOW_ I've been slated for this before but, I was out in a couple of turbo se7ens over the weekend and it's rekindled my passion for a whoosh-pfffft again! And I read that a few people are doing up their Zetec's. Again, too much for me. The RST is the cheapest alternative. I've only got a CVH at the moment and, yes, I know Mark Stanton had a bit of a belter CVH engine. What can I say... I just like the turbo'd cars From what you guys are saying, the type-9 is up to the task, then?
Turbo Tommo
Standard T9 will cope with up to 200hp ok, so will a MT75. If you want a stronger box in a T9 you need a quaiffe or a BGH item. No benefit in fitting a MT75. Sure you don't mean a Borg Warner T5 as fittrd to a cossie. Don't know if that'll fit tho' HTH
CrashBangWallop
Thanks for that figure Tommo. I can't see me going anywhere near that for a while I just want everything bog-standard (If I can find one that the Fiesta or Escort fraternity haven't stuck after-sales bits on). Quaiffe and BGH are just companies, I presume, that make stronger parts?
Turbo Tommo
Yes, and different ratios if you want to do any competition/trackdays. If you are way under 200hp go and tell your "mate" he's talkin nonsense and a standard 'box will be up to the job. If you do total it, they're not a fortune from a breakers. TT P.S. You won't find anyone who does nice ratios for a MT75, which is why everyone said "why you doin' this" in the first place. Stick with wot ya got mate, save some money and buy me a pint with the chage!!
CrashBangWallop
Thank you very much, gents. One less thing to worry about save some money and buy me a pint I'll drink one for you tonight in the Jazz club, TT
Kevin Wood
The MT75's 1st gear is very low and, as Tommo said, you can't get alternative ratios. With a Turbo engine it would be most unsatisfying. Plenty of people make uprated parts and alternative gearsets for the T9 so uprating the T9 and not worrying about hacking the chassis about would be the best bet. The T5 gearbox was the original fitment to 2wd cossies and IIRC, the ratios are better in standard form. It's a big box though, so it'd probably require modification of the chassis to get it in. scruffythefirst
I just like the turbo'd cars Mans got taste! The T5 gearbox was the original fitment to 2wd cossies and IIRC, the ratios are better in standard form. It's a big box though, Just put mine in and its bl**** huge - had to grind pretty much everything off it (and it went in a chassis designed for it), reverse light switch is now mashed but its in. Mind you i have no comparison for size to a T9.
rich101
From my recent experience to get a t5 into a t9 chassis you need to narrow the footwells about 2 inches (at the floor level), tapering off back to normal at the end of the box. I just like the turbo'd cars So there are other people out there who like turbos!!
