FORMULA ONE FACES RIVAL TOUR THREAT

After the battle of the British Grand Prix, Formula One supremo ****** Bernie Ecclestone faces a fresh challenge to his motor racing empire with a rival series in the pipeline.

Formula One giants Ferrari, Renault, BMW and Mercedes, under the umnbrella of GPWC holdings, are reported to be unhappy with the current division of commercial rights in their sport.

As a result they have employed specialist consultants to "start building immediately the operational and commercial structure for a new open-wheel motor racing series, to begin no later than 2008".

The teams are currently bound to an agreement that keeps them in Formula One until 2007, but unless the teams fell the spoils of the sport are shared more venly in the future, a rival tour could become reality.

GPWC chairman Juergen Hubbert, in a statement, said: "We have been more than patient with the current management and governance of Formula One.

"But recent developments have underlined the need for a structure that guarantees a stable and prosperous future of the sport."

With a billion pounds (literally) in his bank account I doubt Bernie will loose much sleep - I have to agree with your comment about him being a ****** though!

Richard.
