From the origanal post it seemed the woman had discovered a new way to avoid work, ie stress. As an employer this is the new back problem uncheckable if you know what to say to the right sympathetic ears. A 6 month sick note is very long one for any Doctor to issue it is normal to revisit stress cases regularly to determine treatment and progress. As for the treatment being to go back to work part time, this is incredible. I cannot belive any hospital would  allow this if all the true facts were known. Imagine your Anuty Doris dies unexpectedly in hospital and you find out the nurse is signed off work with stress, ie she is medically unfit for work, but as part of her "therapy" she is attending to paitients, you might suspect negligence, the litigation would make most sane hospital human resources people run a mile.

And as to the good luck to her, wether it is the system fault or not it is wrong. Hospitals have to have staff, if the money spent on paying for bogus sickness claims was not wasted we might be able to pay the good nurses, like Scott a decent wage so they don't have to sell their holiday time to get an  income most of us would not be happy with. It demeans the many very many excellant staff the NHS has, and if the system is the fault it should be exposed so it cannot happen.

Too bl**** right Jeff !!  Couldn't agree more !!

Just because the system allows it doesn't mean she has to take advantage of it.  I bet she'd be the first to complain if she had a real illness but the treatment had to wait because of a shortage of funds or hospital beds......because someone was defrauding the hospital of money.

Let's not mess about here - if it's not true it's fraud and theft.  Plain and simple.

So exactly who is defrauding the hospital/NHS of money-the woman, or her bosses-who should be fully aware of what is going on? I fully agree it is totally wrong (from what we know so far) but, I dont see it as her fault.

It *seems* that she is on a winner, with full sanction from those above. That is where the blame/fault lies IMHO...

It is human nature to 'push the envelope', so to speak. In a strange kind of way, this is a bit like the old arguement of speeding. If you can get away with it, you will, even though you know it's wrong. And, god willing this never happens, but if you were involved in an accident that was attributed to the excess speed...

*throws hot potato*

I was under the impression that if you are signed off sick, you are unfit for work and therefore there are health and safety issues for the employers - not to mention fraud if she is claiming sick pay as well.

I don't condone what she is doing, but it seems alot of people are being very self righteous about this (he who is without sin and all that).

i got an update on this last night.

Because her sick leave is stress related, returning to work is considered to be therapeutic. She is doing her own job, is not on agency, did not have to apply for the temporarily vacant post, just turns up for work and gets paid 2½ times her salary.

i have to add that i have now lost total respect for someone i liked. its a sickner

sorry, but i might just say something controversial here.

But, whats wrong?  Why is this woman a demon.  She has been signed of for 6 months because her doctor considers her ill.  Without knowing the facts who are we to question her illness?  Her doctor has suggested going back into work will help her, and hopefully it does.  Okay the pay situation is a bit of anomaly and should really be corrected, but I suspect that is more a function of the huge beaucracy that is the NHS rather than her greed.

I wish the woman well and hope she gets better soon.

didnt people used to work to afford themselves a lifestyle, and then liv ethe lifestyle they choose.

The better a lifestyle people aspire to have, the less of a lifestyle get!

Not really. It's people like her that mean the rest of us have to work harder doing the work they should be doing; aswell as our own workload.

That's why units like ours end up getting people in off their holidays; having to pay overtime rates. It's already a system on the verge of financial meltdown (eg. Our 13 beds (without occupancy) cost in the order of £1500 a day each...just to be available) and wasters/ slackers like her need to be cleared out.

Rant over....2hrs and counting to beer time  :p

If you don`t mind me saying, I think your sounding a bit stressed recently Scott   :D  :D  :D

I heard of a place where you could get paid £29.37 instead if you want

On a serious note, having had both parents work in the NHS as physcy nurses in senior positions (no comments please )  ,only to get screwed by the system overworked and underpaid, its going to make some people want whats due.

I know its wrong, but its flawed system.

My Ex-step Mother was a NHS manager, she was a lovely woman but I would not have put her in charge of the milk money............... :bangshead:  :bangshead:  :bangshead:

It's far to easy to get your self signed off on the sick for stress nowadays, a friend of mine has recently had over 6 months off for the very same reason (he does not work in the NHS)..I won't go into the details but let's say that it was far to easy to scam the system...............It all reminds me too much of the whiplash bulls*** that goes on nowadays....      :arse:
