JonnyBoy
So, i'm coming home in November for a little while (8 months or so), and I cant face driving the beetle over the winter anymore. So, what should I go for... this is what i'm thinking VW Golf GTi Campaign Mk1 Peugeot 205 1600 GTi Peugeot 106 Series1/2 GTi Peugeot 106 Rallye Peugeot 205 STDT Any other suggestions? Looking to spend no more than 3K if its a nice 'newer' car, but ideally less than 2K. bare in mind that I am 24, with no NCD, but a clean licence. Opinions gents please
Ian Gratton
Toyota Corolla GT AE86 ? Revvy little 1.6 16v, RWD, what more could you ask for. 3K would find you a 'reasonable' one.
Buzz Billsberry
205 GTi either 16 or 1900 Buzz
Dracoro
Do you have to sell it once the 8 months is up? If so, I'd recommend an easily sellable car.
JonnyBoy
if i got a nice campaign, or a nice low milage car.. i'd probably keep it for everytime i come back. future classics and all that!
mikehreynolds
MK2 16 valve Golf!! you know it makes sense! for that money you could get a late mint J plate which you could easily sell on! Mike
Eccentric_Rich
You're unlikely to find a decent MK1 Golf GTI these days, I agree with Mike about the MK2 16 valve - an excellent car for the money. However, I'd have a 205 GTI for no other reason than the lift off oversteer - miles of smiles once you get the hang of it! Richard.
Major Stare
Peugeot 106 Rallye Excellent bit of fun
Leon B
Think the insurance would be a killer on a Golf GTi 16V, I'd go for the 106 Rallye, you could get a phase 2 for 3K or the 205 GTi, bit hard to find a decent one these days though. Dommo
I'd recommend a starlet turbo as an outsider, import but not difficult to insure or service. Might be at the high end of the budget though...
JonnyBoy
not a fan of the Mk2 Golf to be honest. i was a fan of the starlet galanza 5 on gran turismo.. but it doesnt have that much character. 205 is classy hot hatch (imo), 106 is cheecky hot hatch, and Mk1 golf is just..well.. the beginning of all things hot hatch! oooh the excitement
Blatman
Ian has it. AE86 Corolla Or a Mk 1 or 2 Escort. Cheap classic insurance, and won't lose any money if you keep it nice....
oioi
is load carrying a requirement? why not a mk1 (or early mk 2) MR2. cheap to insure and fun to drive.

Rob Navin
Or a Mk 1 or 2 Escort. I hate to agree with Blatters .... but..... in this case he is spot on. Even the 1600 sport is like driving a westy with a roof. SSSSSSsssssoooooo much fun.
