welsh wizard Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 I never thought I'd be asking people on here for help. but I've had a very stressful evening tonight. I need you to keep Andy busy.....occupied. I thought everything in our marriage was fine. Ok, we may have only been married for nearly 6 months, but I always thought everything was ok. I'd accepted the fact that I had to compete with the Westfield, but tonight was the last straw He bought a new game to play on his PC, and tonight I saw him log onto a boardroom related to that game- Train Sim!!! Please can you help me?? I don't think I can cope with Andy spending his time posting messages on the Train Sim boardroom! Many thanks Luned Quote
barney Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 hi Luned, the obvious thing to do ,in order to save your marraige of course ,would be to go out with a shopping list for the Westie and buy him lots of new shiny things to put on the car.... this would then occupy all his free time until the new said fasination with trainsim passes... HTH Barney andy was that at all convincing??? Quote
Nick M Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 Sadly I fear there will be an inevitable degeneration to this : If you ever hear comments like "Oooh look dear, an Intercity 125 !! *snort* I saw one of those at Crewe once ! *snort*" I believe it is perfectly acceptable to slap him repeatedly while shouting "GET A LIFE !!" Actually, save some time - give him a good slapping now Quote
Matt Seabrook Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 There is no hope Luned. About the only thing you can do is remove power cable from the PC Quote
Mrs Westy Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 I'm so sorry Luned, you have my deepest sympathy Quote
Chris Elworthy Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Its actually all a submliminal message meaning "bl** jobs are for life, not just for the engagement" Quote

neilwillis Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 The only thing you can do at times like these is give him help and support while he works through his problems. Seek help for him, but whatever you do, don't deprive him of whatever it is that pleases him. There are support groups for women who find themselves in your unfortunate situation, where other women who have had their lives blighted by computer software can find solace in knowing they are not alone. They will no doubt explain to you the steady decline that will take place as your husband sinks further and further into his addiction. The pattern follows some predictable stages: 1. Denial - you will find add on software hidden behind cushions on the sofa, in vases etc. DONT confront the unfortunate victim about them, merely go along with his deception. 2. Desperation - the victim will slowly realise that he cannot drive/fly/sail the simulator - expect anguished cries as his lack of skills become apparent. 3. Perseverance - More of the same 4. Desperation - The computer will be thrown across the room, or out of an upstairs window. This is the time the victim will require most support, but whatever you do, don't suggest he tries to break his habit, which will now have reached the next stage. 5. Obsession - the victim will spend more and more time searching for a solution to his problems - symptoms like a permanent stoop will start to manifest themselves about now. Stand back, let the victim work through his frustrations - you don't want to get in his way at this point or you will be bombarded with facts and figures - listen now and your marriage is doomed! 6. Denial again - as before, but much much worse - you'll find specialist magazines hidden behind the cistern, links to forum websites - it looks desperate now, and yes, it is! The only possible way to break this chain of events is giving the victim something else to become obsessed with. Something yellow, shiny, and in constant need of attention! Quote
perksy Posted September 25, 2004 Posted September 25, 2004 Do they sell an add-on to the game that puts wet leafs on the track (add-in a couple of days of industrial action) After a few Delays he might get bored with the game.. Quote
welsh wizard Posted September 25, 2004 Author Posted September 25, 2004 Thank you for everyone's kind words. Luckily the whole train thing has not taken over from the Westie. Actually, Andy is out atm buying stuff to sort out his brakes, which he's planning to do in a few weeks time (while Si "Studbuckle" supervises!!!. I've come to terms with his love for the Westie, cos he likes it when I join in too,but I really don't think I can compete with a train Luned Quote
