RICHARD+PHILIP Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 sorry Tommo can't find a spell chek that spells torneu torneau tornaaaaa Oh b******* back to English classes! It's that thing that covers up the passenger side of the car and is supposed to be made out of flexable material Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Which is why the SS have always made a strong effort to acknowledge those "First Timers" (Novice) in every awards presentation Perhaps not class winners - but these achievements should be noted and rewarded Tom's original (and still remains so) philosophy for initiating the whole Speed Series was to introduce the novices into motorsport - which they can then to continue to develop and lead possibly onto greater and better things Quote
adhawkins Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 But why would a first timer expect to do any form of *any* sport and expect to have equipment on a parr with competitors who have either bought previous championship winning equipment, or who have been "at it" for a few years? It's a somewhat naive expectation, IMHO... Almost certainly... Andy (Mr. Naive) Quote
Ian Podmore Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 He just drove faster than his competitors. And there's the real problem , now what's the solution Runs for taxi Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 now what's the solution Change the rules Ian hold the taxi Quote
waynem Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Hey Andy (H), If I get my car finished anytime soon, I'll register for the SS and we can compare achievements.. I'll be driving to and (hopefully ) from the circuits near to me (Aintree, Three Slappers and a few others..) so we can thrash out who gets the wooden spoon.. Wayne M Quote
Turbo Tommo Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 It would seem that we certainly need some clarification on some issues then. Wiper motors, suspension pickup points, road legal tyres, etc.and if these areas are being abused, then the offenders need to be approached and penalised. These areas haven't been particularly evident in A or B which hasn't necessarily had an effect on the SS in the last 3 years, and so the first timer, IMO hasn't been disadvantaged by big budget racing. The big disparity has been the lack of entries for a class that has restricted the points awarded. Classes B, C, D, E & F have all suffered from consistent low entries (below 5) in the last 3 yrs, and although there has been a high registration, there is a high number of registered competitors that have either done no events or only a handful. I still can't believe people take the wiper motor off!!! Quote
peterg Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I can understand only doing a handful as some people either have: a)restricted leisure time b)other commitments c)restricted budget d)don't want to travel 'that far and back' in a weekend personally, I have all four What I don't understand is people registering and then not doing any rounds at all Quote

I'll be driving to and (hopefully ) from the circuits near to me (Aintree, Three Slappers and a few others..) so we can thrash out who gets the wooden spoon.. Sounds like a plan to me. Not sure if I'll be driving to events or what, we'll have to see (I'd love to be able to trailer the car there so that I know I can get it home...) Only trouble is we're at opposite ends of the country. I plan on doing Curborough, Llandow and hopefully Ty Croes next year. If you're in that area, you have to do Ty Croes (Anglesey). Race you for last place Andy Quote
waynem Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 The Midlands is common ground, and Curborough should be doable! I'd love a trailer too, but space is tight.. (I wonder whats the narrowest trailer you can get ? ) Llys-y-Fran as well. Miles from me, but I love Pembrokeshire, make a holiday out of it... Wayne M Quote
Mrs Westy Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 What I don't understand is people registering and then not doing any rounds at all I do think it is a little unfair to lay the blame on those people who have registered but not done any events - why are they any more to "blame" than the northerners who won't travel south to make the southern events 16 pointers, or the people who only do one or two events - and very often (not always, before people complain...), they are the ones like Curborough that have already got 5 competitors? Quote
peterg Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 There was no 'blame' attached to anyone, all I said was "I don't understand why" ie. what's the point in laying out money to register and then not do anything Honestly! some women jump straight in and criticise when you haven't even done anything wrong..... it's just like being at home Quote

Can someone answer me a question. Why can Mark Smith run with solid tonneau and Ash Mason with altered front suspension pick-up points, when the BB prohibits both, and there is no dispensation in the SS regs. Seems a bit unfair when I was jumped on for no Aeroscreen at Llandow & Llys-y-Fran and stripped of my points. Fortunately, it made no difference as I was dropping 10's anyway, but if it had, my reaction may have been different. JT *throws cat & spanner in* Quote
peterg Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I wasn't making a criticism, just an observation I know Tommo and I never accused you of criticising I was just pointing out the facts of life - well some of them anyway Quote
