scott beeland Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I would like to ask mhc why he is so keen on running against cars without sequential gearboxes rather than running in the mod prod aeroscreen/1b class that already exists Mine still goes on the road Quote
adhawkins Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I can see both sides of this argument, but I think I'd err on keeping the roadgoing classes as 'standard' as possible. FWIW, I'm considering dipping my toe in the water at a few Speed Series events next year. While I'm not expecting to be challenging for class wins and the like, I think I'd get a little disheartened if at every event I was running against obviously superior machinery (driven by people who have the money to throw at their cars to make them ultra competitive) and as such had no realistic chance of a good finishing position. While my 'toe-dipping' exercise will be strictly for fun and not with a view to bagging trophies, it would be nice to think that I was at least in with a chance... Andy Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Just as a point could we keep the 2b cars i.e. (Little engine cars) out of this arguement. None of us 4 have (tim,Kev,Richard,Phil) a Changed suspension pickup points b Got dog/sequential boxes c run Illegal tread depths d remove wiper motors. And none of intend to do any of them in the future we just peddle harder! Want a sequential road going car then move to the road modified class as far as I am aware ACB10s are still road legal I certainly wasn't put off by Tim P's performance this year, and it provided an excellent focus or target. I gave it my best shot and was pleased with the result. I am sure there will be a group of us at a similar level in 'C' next year which will provide enjoyable competition See a happy customer Phil Quote
woodman Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Do other people think that the 1 [16 point ] win is to low and should be ,say , 3 . last year 7 people were up graded from class a alone. Was this too many ? Any thoughts? Quote
westy Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I have been reseaching into lightweight wiper motors this year but never thought of removing it. Great until it rains I guess Quote
Turbo Tommo Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 d remove wiper motors. Don't tell me people do that, I can't believe it!! Well according to the BB, you can't have a seq box in roadgoing unless it was original eq with an original annual production of 20 cars Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 PS PLease change the points system. Then we won't HAVE To travel way up north just to get maximum pointers because some northerners can't be to head south for a few rounds + It will attract more southerners into the championship and then open up new venues Quote
RICHARD+PHILIP Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Yes tommo but the blue book also says you can't have a solid passenger tourne but they have..... and road tyres must be road legal and they arn't...... I feel some strict rule keeping is needed Quote
Blatman Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I think I'd get a little disheartened if at every event I was running against obviously superior machinery (driven by people who have the money to throw at their cars to make them ultra competitive) Be prepared to be disappointed then. In ALL forms of racing there will be people who have more time and money to spend ontheir cars than a novice. I've been watching and participating in motorsport since the early 80's, and onething has proved to be almost universally true. The biggest budget wins.... Quote
woodman Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 Let us not forget that Tim P 's car is very much in line with the spirit and wording of the regs, it does not have any ARB's,it has a std [not even c/r] gearbox,a mildly tuned x/flow [149hp],fully working wipers ,washers etc. He just drove faster than his competitors. With regard to the championship structure -it is the same as when Tom [and i think when wotbox] won .There wasn't much complaining last year. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 The biggest budget wins.... I think Tim P might have something to say on that front Quote

I'm already resigned to that, I know money talks. But being in a supposedly 'restricted' class surrounded by exotic modifications is likely to dishearten. Bet hey, don't listen to me...I haven't even done an event yet! Andy Quote
woodman Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 I agree with Phil The top cars in C were legal. I have to admit that even if i did have more power i would not have beaten them ,they are simply better drivers[sob ,reachfor whisky bottle] Quote
Blatman Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 But why would a first timer expect to do any form of *any* sport and expect to have equipment on a parr with competitors who have either bought previous championship winning equipment, or who have been "at it" for a few years? It's a somewhat naive expectation, IMHO... Quote
