Mark Stanton Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Strictly speaking you need a reverse gear for Sprint/Hillclimb For circuit racing yes, for speed and hillclimb its not mandatory But you will need to be road legal in a road-going class 4 point belts 3 or 4 point harnesses are NOT mandatory for sprints and hillclimbs merely recommended external cut off switch Once again NOT a mandatory requirement for sprints and hillclimbs Sorry to be picky on your posting Paul but please don't confuse circuit requirements and Blue Book sections with those required for sprints and Hills - tis easily done Quote
peterg Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 It may be the fact that Paul shares a 4 litre Judd engined Gould with Martin Groves and therefore they have to meet rather higher safety standards than us poor mortals Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Paul shares a 4 litre Judd engined Gould He oughta get a propa car like a Westfield and drive on 1A's instead of those dangerous tyres without any tread - Quote
Paul Ranson Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Sorry to be picky on your posting Paul L10.8.1 Roadgoing Production, Roadgoing Specialist Production, Modified Production Cars. Reverse gear must remain operative at all times. L10.8.2 Hill Climb Super Sports, Sports Libre and Racing Cars. Reverse gear is not required. I think there is some small room for ambiguity there. But not a lot. That's why I suggested asking existing bike engined competitors. And the OP specifically suggested he was considering running non road-legal, in which case the list I gave all become mandatory. Paul Quote
bikerush Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 i have a reverse box if i need one...tyres i have are 1b's ao 48's so i just thought well why not go in the sports libre class? be more fun trying to compete with higher powered cars than mine .... it's a light dax rush should come out at 450 kg with 180 - 200 hp. with what i have planned.... i am very interested in the wscc series and look forward to meeting peter at prescott if he is going regards dave.c Quote
Paul Ranson Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 One of the great things about hillclimbing is that even if you're not competitive in your class there's always your last run to beat. I'm not running at Prescott but I'll be hanging about on and off near car '6' if you want to come and say hello. (BTW it's only 3.5L and a Cosworth not a Judd....) Paul. Quote
Paul Ranson Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Our Gould had a reverse gear once. After I managed to select it on the Prescott start line we decided to remove it.... Being able to three point turn didn't really seem that important, especially with an engine that doesn't idle. Paul Quote
bikerush Posted September 14, 2004 Author Posted September 14, 2004 now now you 2 i really don't want to run a reverse so i think i will just finish the car off without it and see what class i end up in it could go through sva ok only emissions and noise to really worry about then after that i can sort it out for the series... you are all being really helpful...def a friendly bunch.. i would like to have it road legal but wouldn't use it a lot just when weather good and it suits me i think the wscc series would be great to do...... dave.. peterg Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 (BTW it's only 3.5L and a Cosworth not a Judd....) oops, sorry Paul....I guess the 4ltr Judd is next year Quote
Blatman Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 For an idea of what a hill climb looks like from the drivers seat, click here. This was Wiscombe last Saturday... Quote
peterg Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 he moves his hand a lot around the wheel doesn't he? - probably needs a quick rack Quote
waynem Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Whats the deal with rigging up cameras in cars at events ? I assume it needs to be set up pre-scrutineering ?? Just curious.... As for the wobbly hands, I got told off for that by an instructor. 10-to-2 or gear stick and nothing else I was told. Whatever floats your boat I suppose.... Wayne M Quote
Blatman Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Thumbs on the spokes, and keep 'em there... Unless you really do need to get full lock, which will almost certainly require moving your hands, unless you have a *really* quick rack... Quote
