PeterOz Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Having spent an enjoyable day at the factory recently with Chris and Holly researching for a forthcoming Westfield World feature during which Chris displayed his obvious enthusiasm for cars and motorsport, I can confirm that Chris is, as others have said, a nice bloke and a true enthusiast. Get well soon Chris, can't wait to see you behind the wheel of that Chevron F3 screamer.... Quote

Pepi Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Taken from the Goodwood Revival Website.... Christopher Smith - Glover Trophy In the early stages of the Glover Trophy race for 1.5-litre Grand Prix cars on the Sunday (Sept 5) of the Goodwood Revival, Christopher Smith from Kinver, West Midlands, suffered a substantial impact in his 1961 Lotus-Climax 18 at Madgwick corner. He fractured one ankle and broke the tibia of his other leg. Chris, head of Westfield Sports cars, is a highly experienced driver having raced extensively since the 1960s. The complex chassis structure of the Lotus’s nose caused complications for the crew tasked with extracting Chris from the car, which took longer than expected (Racing was eventually restarted around 45 minutes later). The hospital reports that Chris is comfortable and making good progress. Here's hoping Chris will make a full and speedy recovery! Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I would like to add my best wishes to those already offered. It's a risk that all motor sport drivers take and accept, of course, but it's still a blow when an accident happens. Good Luck Chris for a swift and total recovery; we've never met but anyone who makes it possible for people of modest means to enjoy cars like Westfields deserves the best of fortune. Is there any further news on Chris's condition? He was due further surgery, I believe. Quote
