Martin Keene Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 £35kish? How much extra is the "ish" ? <!--emo& And for an Ultima, wouldn't you say 420hp is not exactly high spec? 500+ hp is high spec imo. Although 420 I guess is adequate Not sure exactly, I've never asked the question directly... answer would too depressing 420bhp is more than adequate in 900kg... do the numbers and see how it compares with an Enzo for a 1/10th of the price... James Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Sorry to be un PC but there not worth the extra ive wanted a seven since I was a child and this time round I thought about it long and hard, but I know I can get more for my buck with a westy! besides at the risk of starting an argument westy's look better Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Now thats a car I likeeeeeeee at the risk of incurring the severe wrath of many Westfield owners - If I had the spare dosh I'd buy one of those Quote

mynickers Posted September 1, 2004 Author Posted September 1, 2004 Warm beer or a Radical Can't you have both? You can get trailers for them! I think I have had too many cold stellas, I have gone image-tastic this evening! Thanks all for discussion, sorry to any caterham owners for any offense caused, and to any Maxpower nerds that have a car covered in plastic, paper-mashie or polly filler body kits. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 Evnin Mr S, What time are you going tommorow ? Eve'nin Mr N - I is setting out early(ish) Friday morning with a brekkie stop en route. Hopefully my new gadget will guide me straight to the place Quote
juansolo Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 On a slight tangent some of their spares are actually well priced. I bought a rear light lens last week. On line, £10, delivered next day. Westfield £15... Very true, I've got quite a few bits and bobs from Caterham aftersales for my Westie as they undercut Westfield by quite a bit. AP Master Cylinder was the last one which was £20 cheaper from Caterham! Quote
juansolo Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 Listened to many and read the this thread, but why are Caterhams faster on the track Sweeping generalisation and untrue. Quote

KenE Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Morning I often pop over from Blatchat to see what's happening with our sevenesque brethren and I couldn't resist registering just to bung in my thoughts on this one. I was reading Blatman's comments with interest last night, and some of those about Caterham vs Westfield on trackdays, and thinking about car comparisons using the extremes of sprinting/hillclimbing as an example. I agree that Ashley Mason is doing one hell of a good job of taking 2b class records in his exceedingly tidy, well sorted and reputedly high powered Vx engined Westie. Though I'd point out that this is achieved on list 1a standard road tyres that tend to slip and slide before really exercising the suspension and chassis so it doesn't really provide a good comparison between cars. Now put them on soft slicks and I reckon you begin to see the difference. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm unaware of a Westfield that can beat the slick-shod performances of Robert Kenrick (BlackBird), Dave Kimberley (2.0Vx) and Brodie Branch (Hyabusa) when achieving times for example at Curborough in the 54/55 sec. region and Loton in the 52/53 sec. region. The slicks really do test the suspension and chassis and I believe highlight an important difference between the two cars. Having said that, it still doesn't justify the price difference for many who use them as road cars with the occasional trackday thrown in - though I'd like to think the difference in chassis and suspension performance might be noticeable and confidence inspiring on a B road late at night! For me, I lusted after a Seven after The Prisoner and since I first watched them at Loton Park in the mid-seventies and nothing coming along in the meantime was going to divert me from getting into debt to eventually buy my dream car. By the way - just thinking back to some of the other comments in this thread, I always wave to ANY Seven-inspired car, I DO have a chin Blatman (two in fact) and appreciate what Westfield have done on the development front in recent years. However I prefer my Superlight R and some other fool(?) will also pay silly money for it when I decide to move on Cheers Ken Quote
