v7slr Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 I think most people know me well enough to realise that most of what the non-Caterham-crowd levels at the Caterham crowd doesn't apply to me. History? Not interested. Style or image. No thanks. Performance? Yes please. Is mine faster than yours? Prob not, maybe, I don't care. It fits me and it's **my** "project" car. It costs me a fortune each year even though it need not. I don't care. What else would I spend the money on? In fact, I don't care to justify my car. I wouldn't change it and will continue to spend a fortune on it, I'm sure. It'll never be perfect you see.... which is why it needs constant money lavished... Quote
mynickers Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 i would happily sell you the same power to weight ratio for a third of the money. and it will be reliable I could never buy a car off a man with chicken knickers on!? When I get around to it, I think I will most probably have a budget of around £5-8k on a westie, first being more attractive than the second.. Be that a 1.8 or 2.0 to be honest, I think i'd be happy with someting fairly low powered for my first, I am sure I will be seduced by the chassis and power to weight ratio on the basic ones for a while, before I become BHP obssessed I have been monitoring the market for past 2 months or so, and will continue to do so till I have my piggy bank gets full enough to buy one, and from my research and listening to you guys that budget doesn't seem that unrealistic. As long as it's reliable, I don't see the point of spending more for now.. RE: Building another track car at Carham, I saw a trouble at the top docu, on Beeb2 not so long ago, it was a lot to do with the old man leaving and I think his son taking over. They did have some other ideas in the making, but their motor sport partner went under and their plans fell apart. I would doubt they'll be able to develop anything to compeat with Radicals or Westies very easily.. Quote
davidgh Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Well it does look nice, but I have seen a few westies, in Orange with carbon bits, and black zorst, wheels, etc, and still look pretty groovy - if that's what you're after. Must agree about the attractive colour scheme Whilst I have seen a couple of indecently well handling (or maybe, handled ) 'C ms' at track days, they do command silly money. I don't know to what extent it's apochryphal, but talking to one or two owners of kit car firms, they speak enviously of the 'C' target market. Apparently, young (and not so young) socio-economic A/Bs with few money worries and a tendency to follow peer group fashion (got to have a C like Rodney's). Ergo -- 'C m' = fashion statement Quote
steve_m Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Buy a Dax and never get involved in the Cateringvan -v- Westfield argument Quote
mynickers Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 Buy a Dax and never get involved in the Cateringvan -v- Westfield argument <!--emo& Didn't want to stir up a westfield v cateringvan compeition, I think they both rock, like I said, the whole concept is amazing, and has been since it started. The very fact, they're still be produced, they're still one of the most respected all around sports cars around after so long means we should all be a bit more than , the point I was making - was, that £30k in the grand scheme of things gives you an awful lot of choice for a track day car, like I said, I have a weakness for M12's I seen M12 with 13k miles or so for £30k and it has a roof and still very quick! The reason I want a Seven is I want supercar performance, a serious drivers car chassis for the cheapest money avaliable. There isn't really anything else that fits that - other than a westie. The same money gets you a clio well lots of things, but they'll nearly all be ragged, fall apart and cost a fortune to insure.. Westfield, and a good set of waterproofs all the way.. Actually seen a couple of westies, and a couple of C's around Kingston this weekend, where I am living at the moment, both sounded great, both changed direction on rails, with the slightest or squeeks and resistant from the tyres! I just want one, and I have to wait Quote

The best reason to buy/keep a car - well done that man Aye, I frequent scoobynet quite a lot, and getting pretty bored of hearing about another mug buying a 996 turbo! So looking at it another way, cain the pants of one of them! Quote
Doug D. Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Yes, Caterhams are prettier They are a pretty car....however I don't think they are prettier in fact I reckon the rear arch and back panel design on the westfield is better. Quote
oldman Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 IMHO...with Catering Vans yer get burgers, hot dogs, cups a tea.etc.....Do we need that when weve got Asda(and yer pay a lot less) Quote
conibear Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Listened to many and read the this thread, but why are Caterhams faster on the track Quote
Blatman Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 They aren't. Plenty of the 2B class records at the sprints and hills (where time counts, as opposed to track days, where it doesn't...) are held by Westfields. I reckon Guy Gibson and Ash Mason have most of the UK venues sewn up between them... Quote
v7slr Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 You may have ASDA nearby but you can't resist one of my lovely burgers with onions and mustard when the smell wafts passed your nose. 1/2 pounder with onions and mustard/ketchup only 3 quid. Go on... go on, go on, go on..... you know you want one. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 and Tom Green and Wotbox have quite a few modified slick records as well Quote
bofus Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 Steady Nige...I'm hungry!!! Cats vs Westfield..who cares? same idea, same effect with other road users..... Quote
