Martin Keene Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 Got blown away by a Ferrari F50 once, in Peterborough of all places! I got to the next roundabout and came up behind it... and followed back around the roundabout in the direction I had just come from, with my windows wound down to hear it being given some... Yes, I am aware this is very sad. My councilling has nearly finished. Quote

Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 The black John Dodd so-called Rolls-Royce (actually a stretched Mk1 Capri) was at the Brighton Speed Trials in, I guess, the seventies. It was not at all impressive, very sluggish and it got bogged down every time with loads of black smoke and the poor old motor fluffing and missing. Rumour had it that it wasn't a Merlin engine at all but something dragged out of an old Centurion tank. I repeat this for what it's worth - my knowledge of Centurion tanks doen't extend beyond the Dinky model I once had. Edited to say that PeterG, you might have seen it en route to or from Brighton, I suppose, seeing your location. On another occasion going to the same event- different year - a Jaguar XKSS, one of the very few in existence, passed me and started me on a love affair! Quote
peterg Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Not en route MOTCO, as I lived in sunny Croydon at the time I used to drive out towards Epsom Downs a lot in the evenings in my youth (even worked on the fairground at Derby time! and I think John Dodd lived around Epsom somewhere - anyway, he overtook me in a cloud of smoke along Foxley Rd which leads from Purley to Epsom Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 peterg, I did a bit of research and found this on Pistonheads from a couple of years ago: look at gnomesmith's post Further research confirms that the Meteor is from a Centurion and is derived from the Merlin: Click here to see Quote
7SE Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 Was marshalling a rally on Salisbury Plain one year. Got overtaken by a Scorpion Tank. We were on the 'road', he was just blatting over the adjacent field Quote
ChrisF Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 About 15 years ago after leaving the British GP. I was tanking it down the fast lane of the M1, looked in the rear view mirror and saw a Ferrari flash me...I moved over to let him past and got a wave for my courtesy from . . . . . . . . . . . . phelpsa Posted August 27, 2004 Posted August 27, 2004 On the back of my dads Honda CB900FS Hornet doing 50mph down a bit of dual carriageway when zooming past comes a little 2-stroke scooter thing, I thought they were limited to 30mph, he couldn't have been doing less than 60 in shorts and t-shirt.
