Luke_Eliasz Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 One more question, i'm going to become a police officer, do you think this will lower my insurance costs because i have car training? *bites tongue* *very hard* Only coppers think coppers can drive... Lol, but i have driven before in my uncles car for around 3/4 mile and did pretty good with gear changing up/down etc.. But realticly would it lower my insurance being a copper? Quote
Andy H Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 TBH i dont know but it will if you take the PASS PLUS thing;) Quote
Colaciccoj Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I am not a copper but i am aware of some insurance companies that give a further 10% discount if you are imployed by the loacl council a copper or in the special forces. PS i paid £1000 for my first car which was a 1.2 nova (yep i had one) and that was third party fire theft. Quote
Paul Hurdsfield - Joint Manchester AO Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Thanks for that. I'm not sure if my local area has a westfield club, i know of 3 catherams in my town, but i have only seen 1 westfield (not sure of model). I'll have a look for a westfield club in my area, but most probably there wont be one, but the local cities will most probably. Is there a list of westfield clubs, as i live in halifax, west yorkshire. Halifax is only half an hour from Oldham So come on down this Wednesday, if the weather's fine we will be going out for a run I'm sure there will be an empty seat for you to fill Quote

The cynic in me says that they'll load the policies up before applying any discount, so it'll make b******* all difference. Luke. I personally do not believe that being a copper will reduce your premiums. I imagine that coppers are never off duty. If you see a crime whilst out driving, you'd probably try to intervene. This would alomost certainly involve some sort of chasing, probably without you leaving the car sensibly parked, and probably with you driving your car above the speed limit, in true cops 'n' robbers stylee... Remember, insurance companies won't give *anything* away, ever.... Quote
Colaciccoj Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Gotta agree with Blatman, the policy will be loaded due the nature of the job. They will see it that the people you nick (if coppers still do that) will hold a grudge, one day they might see you in your nice unmarked car and fancy leaving a calling card. I pay a huge pemium in a similer line of work Quote
Mike Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 if you become a traffic cop does that not mean u would be a member of the advanced driving scheme? which gives u a reduced policy? was looking at tryin to become a member myself to try and reduce mine. but dont really know how much it reduces by. any one know? i am only 20 with 1 addicent which was my fault but did not invollve any other cars, driving a v reg 1.0 corsa. fully comp this is costing me £900+. last year i was paying just over £2k with CIS. this enables me to drive the westfield which is insured through my dad. only way i could find to drive such a fast car at fairly reasonable price. gud luck though luke. had first track day at croft on saturday and was the best experience i have ever had. mike Quote
Colaciccoj Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Mike, the A1 course you mentioned is very good course. you are taught how to read the roads and how to drive safley at speed. I do not know what the discount will be but if you have not done a course like this i would reccommed doing it. It really makes a difference to how you drive. Speak to an instructor beofre doing the course though as you will need to be able to read and speak the road you see without hesistation and pausing. i told a copper when i got tugged at 145 in a sireea XR 4X4 i did the course and got let off... dont think that happens everyday though. But tbh i would of thought if insurance companies giving high premiums to police would be classed as discrimination? Quote
Blatman Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 They'll say it's not discrimination, it's risk assesment. You have no case to argue, and they have no case to answer. Next... Quote
Colaciccoj Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Sorry bud it is not discrimination but risk assessment. If you are a pen pusher in an office you will tend to have a lower premium, alot also counts on where you live. Because i am self emplyoed i called myself an opperations manager when applying for my (personal) car insurance the quote was quite nice at this point. Then they asked what operations i manage when working and my premium nearly doubled. I am a Private investigator working the Commercial area not Matrimonial rubbish, this alone puts me in a hight risk catagory because of the nature of the work. Quote
Colaciccoj Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Blatman, you beat me to that one, must of replyed at the same time... Quote
Blatman Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Er, according to the log times, I beat you by 3 minutes... Quote
