chrisbin Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 How about a Porsche 911 Targa Cheaper than the Cab & Coupe, get a 3.2 if you can & Classic insurance. Or a 944 S2 or Turbo..... Hmmmmmmm nice idea...... I guess it'd just be the worry of servicing/running costs...... Must go and trawl the Classic car mags.... Quote
hilux Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 You can bid on my bl**dy Ginetta if ever I finish it....... Ba***rd things doing my head in Quote
Bryan C Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Agree with MX5 as a daily driver - I went that way after worrying myself to death driving an MGF and suffering 4 major wiring faults in 2 years. Best thing about that was a good P/X. I also considered a BGT with Webasto roof ( cheap as chips and gets all the Le Mans luggage in easily ). Also well switched on to Furys - somebody said this earlier, and also can't fault a Ginetta as a suggestion. Don't give up the quest. Regards BC ( Still using the Westie regularly, now with 17K miles up ). Quote
Monkeylegend Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Can't get TVR's out of my head but equally can't get their reputation out of my head either. But I'd love a V8 and also the fact that there's a "community" out there too. A properly maintained TVR will be reliable and will probably give you as much enjoyment as any other sports car, especially a V8 (ducks for cover) Saw an early 4 litre Griff advertised for 10k in Top Marques. My next car will be a Griff. Club mag is also the best around at the moment. Quote
chrisbin Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 Stag?....Hmmm, maybe in 10, no 20 years time... Ginetta? like the looks, and V8 power......but wouldn't it just be like a TVR?? Have considered MG's, the older ones...the RV8 is quite appealing, but unfortunately 3 or 4k too much at the mo'... Hope you're all enjoying this as much as me!!! Isn't it part of the fun?? Quote

So if its TVR would you go for pristine S, or early (not so pristine) Chim....?? Quote

I wuold probably go for a nice 400SE over an early Chimaera.Or even a 420 SEAC. Chimaeras are nice cars but to common and not RAW enough. Whatever you go for though make sure it has a V8. I would also go for the V8S in preference to the Chim. Quote
chrisbin Posted August 9, 2004 Author Posted August 9, 2004 Cheers monkey! Yep, agreed about White, but it was an attractive price and local to me! Couple of nice Chims appeared over on Piston heads today at under £10k........ Quote
Monkeylegend Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 Never been sure about the shape of the Chimaera. I think its the type of car that would have you very quickly yearning for something a bit less bland. Although the Griff and the Chim are basically the same car under the skin. Quote

Yep, I know EXACTLY what you mean. But its definitely more accessible/attainable than the Griff. Actually, with a few well chosen extra bits/mods, they can look quite tasty. Re. rawness, btw, one of the reasons for changing from the westy was that it was a bit too raw for SWMBO!! Quote
Monkeylegend Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 I think the ideal situation would be to build a bigger garage, keep the Westfield, and buy the Griff. There are some very nice Chimaeras about and if that was the only TVR I could have ,I would say thank you very much . Have you sold the Westfield then? If you have I hope you laid on the guilt trip big time. There should be an eleventh commandment: Man should not have to sell car to keep wife. Man should be able to sell wife to keep car. Quote

There should be an eleventh commandment: Man should not have to sell car to keep wife. Man should be able to sell wife to keep car. Yep, it went at the weekend! One ad here, lots of interest, one viewing, sold same day! very painless! TBH I was ready to sell - I had always wanted one and after 2 years could say "I've done that". Didn't do the track days etc that I hoped I would, but thats pressure of time with young family. Speaking of which, one of the other reasons for having a toy that is not quite so basic - I'd feel happier travelling further with my son or daughter in Tiv than in the Westy (rightly or wrongly)... SWMBO came out with the classic "well I didn't say you had to sell it"......closely followed by "so are we going to put that money together with mine to get me a better car.......??" Er, no dear, that wasn't the idea....... Quote
