turbo deisals

Hi chappies,

A few months back I started a topic about turbo Deisals in Westfields and got shot down in flames..... Westfields are not the right cars to put Deisals in but modern turbo Deisals are so fast that they are starting to tread on petrol Performance cars toes. For instance a relative of mine is buying an S-class 2.7 twin turbo Deisal which goes from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds and does 40 mpg (combined). This will rival most Westfields which is pretty remarkable in a car weighing over 1.7 tons. This engine is small enough/economical enough to put in a much smaller, lighter car. This would give amazing straight line performance. Basically I am worried that a fat cow like an S-class might beat me off the lights. Sad, I know.

I drive both, 150 bhp GTI TDI PD Golf and a xflow Westie.

The Golf is quick, very quick and light and agile enough to be a hooligan in the appropriate place and to cruise the motorways in comfort. It has a 6 CD changer, climate control, cruise control, electric everything and a 6 speed box. It returns 45 mpg and for a company car in a business I own it makes a lot of sense but..................

Compared to the Westie is b######s. We are by definition petrol heads, it is not just speed, it's more or different, it's a combination of sound, smell and feel that makes a 7 special.

I can't imagine this being replaced by a diesel however powerful.

:)
